Forums - Gaming - Orange box for PS3

Luckily it doesn't take a powerhouse of a PC to run any HL2 game, so any Wii owners with a PC even aged a few years should have no problem on HL2!

But agreed BenKenobi, I think it's been very evident along time now that the PS3's power is little more, if not lesser proven than the 360's power AND bonus of easier development. You've really got to question this if HL2 does not look absolutely stunning on PS3 AND 360, and I mean it's got to look the utter dogs bollocks in comparison to an extremely high end PC. The Source engine is amazingly scalable and if this underperforms on either console, then... yikes, is all I can say.

The real losers are the wii owners they don't even get the port :D

very true.

Yeah, we have to settle for the PC version, which is both better and cheaper.  DAMMIT!  Valve really screwed us over!

Well I feel the reality is the PS3, in the end, isn't THAT much more powerful than the 360...not enough for developers to care.

When your wrong no comment... On topic: Lets see its an EA game, again its EA. They prefer the xbox 360 over anything.

For some reason EA is porting the ps3 version of Orange Box, while Valve are working on the PC and 360 versions. I assume that is the reason for the delay.

Also, don't expect the ps3 version to be on par with the 360 version, either. Why do ps3 owners get shafted so much?

You sound like a Gamecube owner from the last generation. Unfortunately, PS3 owners are going to have to get used to ports that are't optimized for the PS3 hardware. Developers don't like maximizing a systems strengths when it has the smallest usebase. Not only that, MS has development tools specifically opitimized for bringing PC code over to the 360. Any port from the PC to consoles will most likely be easier to bring over to the 360. Basically, PS3 owners are going to take on the buying habits of Gamecube owners from last generation. They are going to want to stick to Sony's first and second party offerings if they want the best that the PS3 can offer. Just like GC owners had to stick to Nintendo titles because third party games were by in large substandard on the Gamecube.

Why do Sony fans constatnly ask this? At this point, it is common sense. Your console has a very small userbase. Even more so, it is a rubix cube of hardware. It is not worth the money that it takes to develop for the console, since A. it's more expensive to develop for (due to the complexetiy) and B. there is a smaller pool of potential customers. These 2 factors combined make a very unattractive console for developers.

Most developers are smarter than that though. They understand that there is nothing from stopping the PS3's user base from growing, and given the facts for hardware comparison it seems a little shortsighted to develope games for the 360 IMO. Many developers know to develope for the stronger piece of hardware- but then again, many devs also only think about money ( why shouldnt they- they are businesses) - so they develope for the 360 and port it.

The simple answer is because Microsoft launched their consloe a year before the PS3.

If only that were true.  I would have had a lot less ports on the GC.

The GC was not the strongest hardware...

You're absolutely right. Let me rephrase it then. Thank God that ultraslick's statement is not true. I would have had a lot more ports on my PS2.

It was far stronger than the PS2 and much more easy to develop for. Yet developers riddled it with substandard ports due to a smaller userbase and lack of moneyhats. The PS3 has a smaller usebase than its competitors, it is harder to develop for than its competitors, and more expensive to develop for than its competitors. So the most logical conclusion is that it will be more often than not subject to rushed and thus inferior multiplatform titles.
