SOTC easily competes with any game for a place in the top 5 best games EVER (and no, not the lists you see anywhere where f^%ng Super Mario is number one)

Around the Network

My favourite was 15 (second last), followed by 13 (giant flying dragon). I thought 16 (final) was pretty good, I HATED the sandworm, and I disliked the crab because he took forever.

One of the best games ever, without a doubt. I wish I could play it for the first time again

(Former) Lead Moderator and (Eternal) VGC Detective

Just started it got and I just took down the 2nd one...

Former something....

TBH I didn't really find the ending all that sad, it might've been because I played Ico first and IMO that ending was much sadder. Overall I still thought SotC was the better game.

Did you wait through the credits to play out the final scene with Ico?

Of course I did, I always sit through the credits :)

without spoiling to much I even did the watermelon thing on my second play through.

Yah, so in the end it's not so sad really, is it?  I found SOTC to be clearly the more melancholy game, with a sombre mood throughout that built to a very moving finish.

Ico felt more like the slow advancement into sunlight, coming to an essentially uplifting ending.

*Ico Spoilers*

Sure... Ico's ending might seem happy y'know except for the fact that Ico dies on the Boat,  after the credits is him in heaven!

Doesn't sound very happy now, does it?

What making it 'there' isn't happy?

Also, that's not my reading.  He's clearly on the beach looking out to where the castle used to stand... and finds that someone unexpected has washed up on the shore, freed of their legacy.

So for me it's a very happy ending.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

did you finish the game or did you just made that up?

thats not the ending i got....

Alright so I gave it a quick search on google and I was wrong. Ueda's interpretation wasn't that ICO *ICO spoilers lalz* dies it was that ICO is still in the boat dreaming. Yorda couldn't possibly leave the castle so odds are that she's dead. Why I find it sad, or rather moving? It's because ICO leaves without Yorda and you can see the whole castle falling apart, and to top it of is the song that is played during the ending/credits. I found it sad even before the credits was over.

SotC however, while a very sad ending. With him trying to reach the girl (forgot her name) while in his demon form. But Argro came back, the girl came back to life and Wander was reborn. So yaay, happy ending
