lol, I always find it strange when a developer says one version of their game is better than the other in a published interview. It's like telling owners of "x" console that you are giving them an inferior experience for the same price. How's that for advertising? It's one thing for edge to do this but Carmack himself? Well good luck selling Rage on ps3.

You are flaming him for just being honest.

How am I flaming him? It's nice that he's honest and all but some things are better  off left to the tabloids. Eurogamer would've posted this info when the game launched anyway. There's a reason capcom always says their games look the same when sites like Eurogamer can somehow find differences.

There's a reason bethesda never officially said that fallout 3 was better on 360 even though the ps3 version was downright craptastic. Think.

If you're developing multiplatform, saying stuff like this is just shooting yourself in the foot whether it's true or not. There's a big difference between 60fps and 20 fps and both games will retail for $60+

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

He is just telling the truth at that point in time. He never said the final PS3 version will run worse than the X360. Maybe he is a naive guy who don't care if every little statement is twisted and used in internet flame wars. I think that's a good thing, because he is displaying info that some serious people want to know about graphics and hardware performance.

Why are you saying Fallout 3 on PS3 was craptastic? I don't believe you. Small differences like screen tearing and pop-ups don't matter.

Its actually the same reasons why Rockstar said the PS3 version of GTA IV was better in spite of it running with lower resolution, no MSAA and poorer framerates. It was to divert attention away and prevent otherwise negative publicity. It all depends on the level of public scrutiny as well, but in this case hes more giving an honest opinion about the status of the games engine and it has no real bearing on the product at the end of the cycle.

Tease.

when fallout 3 launched, you couldn't even play it while connected to PSN. The game froze when any of your friends came online. For someone with 100 PSN friends like me, the game was downright unplayable while connected. That is a GRAVE ERROR that should never have passed through QC and shows complete neglect of one version of the game.

You're probably right. Perhaps naive is the right word to describe him. All he has done is provide ammo for zenfoldor, Kowenicki and co. at the expense of making money for himself. People who need such info can always find it elsewhere and there are some things you're better off not telling people even if they request such info. Techies can always get their info.

What happens after this is that perhaps lots of 360 fanboys will be pleased that they get the superior/normal experience if they got Rage and perhaps gloat about it and lots of ps3 fanboys would be pissed especially those who were interested in the game and they may not buy it. I don't consider myself a fanboy but I believe that as gamers, our wallets are the only 'real' voice we have in this industry, Therefore, we have to vote for/against stuff by using our wallets accordingly. Thus, I won't blame those who've moved rage to their skip list.

I don't remember rockstar saying that but if they did it kinda makes more sense, in a way, to hype up the poorer version. It's all moot for GTAIV though because the franchise is so popular that almost nothing would've stopped it's fans from buying. Rage doesn't have that luxury.

We'll see about the final product but I highly doubt that anything will change. We'll just have to wait for Eurogamer

Actually @ your other comment as well. I would suspect that in the future all multiplatform games will be equal to a fault between the two systems. As a couple of developers have said on B3d, they don't want any negative publicity. If one version is better then the other version is worse.

Tease.

Then it would make sense that they don't provide such publicity themselves. Multiplats are rarely equal. Even when they are "equal" there are pobably differences that are beyond the human senses. However, the fact remains it's in a developer's best interest not to mouth off these differences by themselves.

Gabe Newell can "badmouth" the ps3 since he has no stake in it but here we have ID's boss "badmouthing" a version of his own game.

Unfortunately the flip side of this is that any such closing off of information tends to leave people who are interested in the development process in the dark. Theres an important difference in bad mouthing a platform and giving a blow by blows account of the trials and tribulations. I don't see how hes exactly badmouthed the PS3 when hes said explicitly that on release both versions will be par.

"Badmouth" perhaps isn't the right term but as I said before, those who want such info on the development process can find it elsewhere. This kind of stuff exposed to the mainstream gaming community is just more fodder for pointless flamewars and would end up costing Carmack some copies of Rage.
