Forums - Gaming - Nintendo and Microsoft follow Activision's lead with videogame price hike

So let me get this straight... Activision wants people to pay roughly 92$ for MW2????

Nintendo wants people to pay 58.5$ for The next layton????

I don't like this one bit... Games here in the Bahamas are already 90$ per PS360 game and 50 for a DS game because everything here is just imported from the US. If something like this happens in the US, I'm screwed.

The only time I buy games here is when my mother or I aren't visiting the US within the next two months. Other than that, I reallly have to want the game BADLY.

It's for the UK only, and it's because the value of the Pound Sterling isn't nearly what it used to be. It's much closer in value to the Euro and a lot of people in Europe are importing from the UK because it's cheaper than buying in their home countries. That's not going to fly with publishers. In terms of real world exchange, there games aren't really more expensive than they were in the past. It's just that the Pound Sterling is worth less.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

When other currencies were losing value, were there price hikes?

Yes.

South Africa: http://www.lazygamer.co.za/ps3/ps3-price-increase

Sweden: No link but it also happened, for all three consoles I think (or at least PS3 and Wii)

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

lame sauce.

My company also raised its prices in the UK. Back in 2006 we used to convert 1 to 1.4 from Euro to Pound. Then we had to go up to 1 to 1.25 in 2008. Now we're at 1 : 1 parity between the Euro and the Pound. It's not fun for our British customers, but what can we do?

If they don't like it, they should join the Euro, or just suck it up.

By the way: If you convert from Pound to Dollars you have to take out the VAT. £35 are $51, not $58.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Wow I cant believe they had it in them to raise DS prices to that much...thats like 20$ more than it needs to be...
