Forums - Gaming - Why Does Gamestop...

That's why I usually always demand a sealed copy... except with KZ2 I didn't have a choice. Was in a rush that day and it was my last day in the US...

Put stickers on their new game boxes? I purchased a new game from there and it had one sticker on the front top right corner, one on the side (on the artwork, wtf?), and one on the back bottom left corner. Annoying since they never peel off well and always leave a residue on what would otherwise be a shiny new case. Is this policy...to put 3 damn stickers on each box? I'd think one on the top right would suffice...

What? Do you mean used games, because they can't do this with the New Boxes, because if you haven't noticed... they are wrapped lol

They're marked as "new" but are no longer in their plastic wrapping.

They do that so the employees can "rent" the games before you buy them.

Can Gamestop get in trouble for that? It technically isn't new. The product has been used, no matter what. Even if their are no scratches on the disk. Also those stickers they put on the case to reseal it, makes the case sticky and ultimately damages it.

you guys do realize that most games you buy "new" from gamestope are actually new? They let their employee's check out the games, meaning they take these new games home and use them, and then bring them back.

Never buy new from gamestop.

You do realize it's fairly easy to tell which games that might have happened to and which ones haven't, right? If it's still shrink wrapped, like the majority of their new games are, I'm fairly certain it's never been played by anyone prior to purchaser.

This should go as a general rule. There's nothing wrong with buying a new game at Gamestop. Just make sure the new game you buy is a shrink wrapped copy, otherwise go somewhere else. Very simple.

it might have changed, but when I worked there we just re-shrink wrapped them.  So nobody could tell if it had been used or not.

I'll take the case of a 360 game since I'm most familiar with them. Each 360 game has three stickers along the three openings of the DVD case that are official Microsoft stickers. Secondly the original shrink wrapping is specially folded on all three openings, and most companies that re-shrink wrap things use the shoddy method of having some vacuum method and a pinched closing. So you're telling me Gamestop actually repackages 360 games to appear brand new? I call bullshit. It's fairly easy to tell when something has been re-shrink wrapped, because it's poorly redone.

well, I haven't worked for gamestop since 2002, so it has been a while.  Things may have changed.  Obviously the stickers on 360 games are different (although no such stickers exist for wii games or ps3 games).  And yes, we had a really nice shrink wrap machine that did the folded edges and everything.  You had to with that kind of repackaging going on.

Either way, it doesn't change the fact that the employee's do check out the new games.

no you are correct they still can shrink wrap. for my Bday i wanted Valkyria Chronicles since it was only 30 bucks at GS. i told my gf i wanted it and to make sure it was shrink wrapped and not that BS its opened and the disc is seperate but its new shit. so she called and asked some GS's and she told me that they said that can shrink wrap it for her.

OT: i will not buy new games from gamestop if they are opened. new or not, if i purchase a new game i want it factory sealed as i know that NOTHING has been tampered with. i'm sorry i just dont see how they get off selling something new that's opened but if u return something opened it is used. nice double standard.

@ mtlca -
I agree, if I wanted to buy a used one then I would, don't pawn a used one off as a new one.

Well for starters it probably isn't new if it doesn't have shrinkwrap on it, secondly there is some stuff you can get to get rid of that residue.

I have never bought a game from Gamestop.

I like Gamestop, as the employees in my area are extremely friendly and nice. But I just hate the selling used for new price. Isn't their faults, I blame corporate. Just from now on I will just inspect my games that I buy from there.

HMV do it over here, and it is really annoying. What is worse is when they come with stickers advertising great reviews, and Sony's new love it putting "stickers" on the actual artwork, so the review is built in and cannot be removed, though those annoy me less than the stickers.

I always go for game or amazon, and amazon never put anything on it, just leave the PS3 wrap on (with the PS3 strip across it)

On top of that, things like the M$ sticker on 360 games come off really easily and leave no mark (unless I accidentally dig my fingernail into it), but half of these stickers don't come off easily and leave tons of resin

I dislike gamestop for quite a few reasons (one had to do with one of the clerks giving me P3: FES, new while it was clearly out of the wrapping and the disk wasn't even in there. Another issue was DMC4 with its stickers pasted on.) But, my friend bought a 2 disk game(forgot the name of the game) for the PS2 and one of the disks inside was missing from the package. Nowadays I go to Best Buy to buy my games and plus it's a slightly shorter distance from my house. But slashing $10-$5 off a $60 used game that just came out or has been out a few months makes you wonder if it's a bargain or a ripoff. Not to mention some of the employees force you to buy a used game.
