I wonder how cheap and small an 8 GB ROM cartridge could be made these days. I tried to find data on that, but it's not very easy.

I don't like how large they were, making them too difficult to shelve/ transport. I hope next gen we can go to flash based media because even 16GB memory sticks are insanely cheap these days compared to their price just a couple years ago.

tedteriscool flash based media doesn't make sense for games. Why would you need to write over a game cartridge?

Read-only media should be much cheaper, that's what the DS uses (as well as a small amount of writable memory on each cart for save games).

OP: Yes I do! DS games are perfect, never had one fail or anything. CD's are another story...

I hate cartridges. Disc based medium is so much easier to carry around.

maybe the cartridges of old, but you can't argue that DS carts are harder to carry than CD, DVD, or Blu-ray discs.
