Forums - Sony - Folklore seems like a mixed bag

It is getting reviews across the board.

Got lots of average reviews, and surprised with a 9 from IGN.

Then it got a 4 from GameDaily, and now GameZone gives it a 9.

Thoughts? I've never seen a game with so many mixed reviews.

Current Overall Review Score - 7.3.

Does it use motion controls by any chance?

Well, here's the thing then, something anyone has been reading Wii reviews would know: Game reviewers suck with motion controls. Suck like a nuclear hoover.

No matter how good a game is, some people aren't able to use motion controls, hence in their mind, it sucks. Which is unfortunate that they can't play games that require only a smaller amount of athleticism than taping buttons in moving your arms slowly or quickly in controlled directions. Also quite unfortunate some of those people review games.

Honestly, I take every PS3 game review with a grain of salt. I really believe that if Heavenly Sword were released on the 360, it would have gotten a 9.2+ average.

Granted, this may be because Sony isn't as "nice" to reviewers as MS. But still.

I'd wait for more than 3 reviews before making a decision. I trust IGN more than any other website so their 9.0 means something to me. I haven't heard of the other two sites and even had I heard of them two 9's and a 4 isn't anything definitive.

While I agree with you, that didn't seem to be the complaints.  Gametrailers complained about the game forcing you to constantly flip through menus and change your equips in the middle of boss fights (which also creates lag).  They also complained about bad voice acting, length, and a linear story, but gave the game a 7.3 and called it good in the end.

It seems to me that if you can get passed those few complaints it's a very good game.  I think I would buy it just to turn it on and listen to the music and stare at the artwork haha.

Yeah, motion controls are pretty limited in this game. You do use them quite a bit, but they're not a central feature of the game like they are in Lair. I hope that makes sense.

As for the reviews, the demo seemed pretty good and I can totally see how this would be love it or hate it type of game. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I probably won't pick it up this year. Maybe when it drops to $40 and we're going through a game drought.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I think IGN is mocking the ps3.

They call it THE BEST PS3 GAME.

Everyone else says its mediocore. And after they gave go sport ski! a 2.1/10 They can burn.
