Forums - PC - Is this a good gaming PC?

I'm getting an Alienware off my uncle who bought it off my cousin. It's a little dated but has some nice specs. Here they are below.

CPU: Pentium 4  3.4 GHZ

RAM: 2.75 GB

Video Card: 256 MB (I only know the memory of it)

GPU: Geforce Go 6800 Ultra

OS: Windows XP

I'm just curious if this can run a lot of games. I've checked some PC games in the store, and they seem to be within the computer's limit. The computer even meets the requirements of Crysis, although I don't know if it will run it or not.

You can run any game that has been published with that computer. You just have to set settings a bit lower.

Isn't the Geforce Go 6800 Ultra a notebook GPU ?

RAM is good, the CPU could be stronger (dual core)

What are the games you want to play ?
Crysis would run, but I think you can't set anything higher than medium and a 1024x768 resolution.

It sucks, hope you didn't buy that for more than $50 - $100

It's using older hardware so I wouldn't expect high settings in today's games.

Those specs are in the low range of today's requirements and you won't be able to run new games very well at all, even on medium to low settings.

The Nvidia 6800 cards were top-of-the-line in 2004.

So yes, your PC was a good gaming PC half a decade ago. ^^

As other have said you can play almost anything with low to medium setting at a low rez. But hey for 5 years old that is pretty damn good.

XBL: WiiVault Wii: PM me  PSN: WiiVault

PC: AMD Athlon II Quadcore 635 (OC to 4.0ghz) , ATI Radeon 5770 1GB (x2)

MacBook Pro C2D 2.8ghz, 9600m GT 512 iMac: C2D 2.0, X2600XT 256

Low settings only even at 1280x1024 for games under a year old.

Er...it's not that great tbh. Maybe low-medium on new games. Probably all low though :(

Edit: No way in hell can you play Crysis on that. My Phenom Quad Core and 8800GT struggle to keep it above 20fps on high. Such a terribly optimized game.
