Originally set to appear in 2009, 2k Czech's Mafia II is now set to appear in the first half of 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Judging from the video below, the game is shaping up pretty well.

Mafia II will be an open-world game set in '40's and early '50's (the story takes place over a decade of the player character's life). It takes place in a sand-box game world, but the missions are primarily linearly arranged, with a strong emphasis on the story. This time around, the game will have a greater focus on gun fights, in which the cover system will play a big role. Compared to sandbox crime-games like Saint's Row, things are a bit more realistic in Mafia II, with the player able to receive traffic tickets for reckless driving, and not being able to sustain a massive volley of sustained small-arms fire.

I loved Mafia 1 more than GTA, first day buy for me too

After Prototype I don't think sandbox games should be made unless they can make it more fun than being able to body slam old ladies form the empire state building...
