This is my favourite game on the Dreamcast and I still haven't given up hope for a sequel. I admit that the random battles we're a bit much at times, but I played the whole game with a smile on my face.

If it wasn't for Secret of Mana it would definitely be my favourite RPG.

I agree Aresnal009, PsicloneX has damned good taste. I put some many hours into Grandia 2 and SoA on my Dreamcast. I loved SoA so much, I bought the GC version too.

One of my fave RPGs ever that and Grandia II.  I have SOA both on Cube and DC,it's just that good and one of my fave games ever made.

Just the fact Vyse has a cameo in VC on PS3 makes me want to get a PS3.

Soriku you need a good slap saying something like that esp for someone who goes on about TOS/TOS2.

Haha man, I'm just playing Grandia 2. Its a good game so far.

Soriku has no taste. :P

That comes from years of playing Tales of Symphonia and convincing himself to enjoy it.

Vyse is one of the best video game protagonists to grace an RPG on any console and the ship-to-ship battles are awesome.

Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't need any convincing. Try again.

I just thought the game was too generic. Get some crystal things, own some monster things that the empire wants to use to rule the world, yadda yadda. I thought Vyse was cool and the ship battles were as well (but the ship battles needed to be faster).

If they ever make a SoA2 I'd get it and it wouldn't be hard to make it better: make a less generic story, make battles faster, no random battles. That's all it needs to be a better game.

you have no taste boy!

@Soriku

Skies of Arcadia to many of us is above a game like Tales of Symphonia not because of the elements the game has, but the execution of these elements that delivered something fresh no other RPG has given us in a long time.

Vyse, for example, is not the typical RPG character with a shady past, orphan, outcast, EMO, etc. He's not even a chosen or forsaken one. He's is just a guy that perseveres no matter the obstacles and never gives up to follow his dreams and ambitions. The rest of the cast were more common and there was not much depth in each of them (thank God!).

The thing I like the most of SoA is that is not a typical save-the-world kind of plot. The developers did a great job by giving a sense of wonder and discovery with every new land, new people, new culture. It was more oriented towards the sensation of adventure than just grieves, emotions, pasts, hatred, etc.

^ Yes.

SOA is one of those where it lacked in story it made up in amazing presentation and full of charm.

When it came out there was nothing like it. On Purpose it didn't take itself too seriously like 99% of RPG's do.(even though I like RPGs)

It was such a breath of fresh air.

It was one of the handful of games I played in 20 years that when I turned it on I got so sucked in next thing I knew it was the next day and could not believe I lost total track of time.
