New Super Mario Bros. Wii will start the next 2D revolution!

Platformers like Gex, Bug!, and Clockwork Knights will all suddenly appear again. Plus console Sonic games will finally be tolerable again.

After that we might see some other 2D genres come back like the Beat 'Em Up, Shoot "Em Up and Fighting games. We might even have a Mortal Kombat that doesn't suck!

I only wish that sprited 2D made a comeback. *sigh : (

Hmmmm...yeah. I was wondering also when 2D gaming would come back. If only we had a platform basking in the glory of 2D. Nah. Nothing like that exists in this day and age.

It'ss be awesome to see some more platformers, though.

Eh. Let platformers die. I love the original mario games... we don't need more. Personally, I'm viewing NSMB Wii as a lazy game.

I really doubt it. Hopefully at the very least it creates more 2d xbla, wii ware, and PSN games because i doubt people will justify paying $50 for very many games like that.

Long Live SHIO!

Personally I can't believe that there isn't anybody at Sega who saw NSMB climb it's way to 20 fucking millions in sale and didn't get up at a company meeting and say "So, are we making Sonic 4 yet?". Especially as the jump to 3D wasn't always smoot sailing for the poor hedgehog.

But then there wouldn't be an oppurtunity to show off his 'tude, diversify gameplay with all of Sonics friends, or a good utilization of modern blast processing.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Only if you buy your game based on production value instead of, you know, how much fun you have playing them. I know, crazy idea!

Well, they could "blast" all is friends off, I think it would be a good use of modern blast processing.

We dont need 2D games. 3D games with proper cell shading look amazing, and these can be made in to side scrollers. Check out this new wii dragon ball game to see what Im talking about.

@KichiVerde: Any sidescroller I think is a 2D game in the context of this thread as New Super Mario Bros. for both DS and Wii have 3D character models.
