The ones who don't have a PS3 yet might care. Many shops let you exchange your old PS2 for a PS3 at a significant discount. Now they need to keep the two consoles, which many people don't like (cable mess, wasted space).

Maybe I'm strange, but has anyone else noticed that the PS3 fans who bashed Nintendo for not including DVD playback with comments like "Who wants to have both a game console and a DVD player in their entertainment center" and also were critical of the XBox 360's weak Backwards compatibility are now the ones claiming that it is no big deal to have 2 consoles under your TV and Backwards compatibility is a small deal?

Ok, how about this from another perspective. If, AND ONLY IF, you seriously planned to buy a PS3 in the next 6 months... Answer this question:

If you could pick from two PS3 models -- both exactly alike in every way except backward compatibility how much extra would you spend to get the BC? $50? $100? Nothing?

Assume the prices are really cheap for a moment when you answer this question -- say $200 and $250 or something like that...

Who were those "PS3 fans" you speak of? Hus and leo-j? Great example. PS2 owners who want a PS3 would care less if the 40gig Ps3 had BC. Like Potamus said, Sony is not targeting the "I don't have a PS2" market, its the 100 million PS2 owners market their targeting.

I'll take the case!!!
