You're right though. Why put in the extra effort to make an complete product when you don't have to?

That's part of the revelation some companies are coming to.  Now couple it with DLC and you have a depressing potential future for gaming.

What I got from this post:

"hey the game was going to sell awesomely anyway, why on earth would they want it to be GOOD?"

Rephrase this please.

I'm not going to rephrase just because you couldn't comprehend it the first time.  If you want clarity then say so and ask for it politely.  Ask for it in a rude way and I will give you a rude response.

You should have an option to do both.

Online gaming is a feature that every console and handheld supports and it's ridicoulous and entirely lazy for a developer to not include online mutliplayer for a multiplayer based game. Your post really shows how bad it is.

You'd hope as gaming grows that they'd be able to include very basic features found in their compeitition.

How many more copies do you honestly believe Wii Sports Resort would sell if they had included online multiplayer?

Step back from the "gaming as an evolving art" viewpoint and look at the business side of it.

It's not about being good, but just satifying your target base. WSR will satisfy that base, but they certainly could have done a whole lot more with it.

Then I'll assume I understood it correctly.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Why do people keep reading IGN?  Especially considering this:

i hate when Wii is compared with HD consoles

Its pretty obvious their bias'.  Not to mention the majority of their reviews are how they 'felt' playing the games.  Disliking anything except Metroid or random games they consider 'innovative' (Zack and Wiki).  And downscoring everything else, claiming 'lack of innovation' or 'too much innovation'.  And then certain reviewers having bias for or against certain genres (like Matt obsessing over FPS and Action games and Bozon downscoring RPGs).  But the major problem is, as stated above, IGN is comparing all games to GTAIV now.  And as a result, all Wii games are going to be automatically inferior due to a preconception of limited graphics and 'story'.

@Pyro as Bill

1. I'm not sure we were watching the same E3. Playing a few 3P trailers is not the same as giving them stage demos like the competition does. Nintendo mainly focused on its 1st party stuff just like always. They don't spend time or money helping 3rd parties advertise anywhere near as much as Sony/MS and they also don't share tech with 3rd party developers soon enough.

2. Hello, the Wii has a larger user base. Third parties has sold a few games more on the Wii but generally if you release a new IP or game developed for the core audience you are better off on the HD twins. The total number of 3rd party sales is mainly from sales of casual demographic games which I have pointed out may or may not sell as well in the future.

3. Yes MK is casual. Sure there are people who play it religiously but the Wii version especially is very casual friendly. Just because it also appeals to core users doesn't mean it isn't casual.

4. Galaxy, Zelda, and Brawl are some of the only games that Core gamers have come out and purchased on the Wii. Also, Mario has some universal appeal so I'm sure some casual gamers bought it.

5. When I refer to TERRIBLE online I am referring to Nintendo's TERRIBLE online infrastructure. Online isn't just the game's online support, the console should have a universal online infrastructure.

6. Paying for Live sucks but if that is the only way that MS can offer a superior online infrastructure (and it is superior) then so be it. Personally, I would welcome Nintendo offering a more advanced online system for subscription members that offers user names instead of friend codes, universal friend lists, leader boards, support and troubleshooting, monitoring for cheating, universal voice chat, more servers etc. I can understand that these costs add up and if they just can't find a way to make a robust service free then I have no problem paying.

7. 15 of the 30 years you mention didn't even have the internet, and broadband has only started to take of in the last 10. Local multiplayer is nice to have but honestly it just isn't fun trying to squint into a tiny corner of the screen to play. I played Goldeneye/Perfect Dark in high school and it was fun then but technology has moved on. Why do you think LAN play became so popular with Halo? Online is where it is at especially when many people don't live in proximity to all of their friends. Also, many many gamers in their 20s and 30s log on every night to play online games on Live and PSN. It certainly isn't only for teenagers.

I'd say it's for two reasons:

1) People keep posting links here,

2) It's probably the best of a bad lot, considering the other options are sites like Gamespot or Eurogamer.

@Kenryoku

What are you talking about? IGN is one of the most Wii friendly gaming publications there is. Are you saying you think that Gamespot, 1up, Giantbomb, Game Informer, Game Pro etc. are less Wii friendly?

Hell, even Gametrailers and Nintendo Power are more critical of Wii games than IGN most of the time.

Personally, I think IGN is well balanced.  There are some areas where Nintendo is unparalleled but there are plenty of others where they are lagging behind the industry.

I would definitely disagree.  Look at their reviews of games aside from 'major' titles (aka Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros).  You'll be hard pressed to find a game over 8.5.  The majority of the games they review over that number are Virtual Console games that everyone knows are good.  And they throw a LOT of opinions around.  Mostly pinging the system and its 'innovation'.  But there's been some times when they even cite games on the 360 as examples (clearly showing that they are comparing Wii games to 360 games).

Ok well what site or magazine is less biased than IGN then?  I have seen a ton of people complain that they are too lenient on Wii games...

They score third party games that are geared toward their reader's demographic pretty high IMO..  For instance:

The Conduit 8.6

Mad World 9.0

Okami 9.0

Zack & Wiki 9.0

RE4: 9.0

PES 2k8 8.6

etc.

Most people instantly give Nintendo first party titles 9.0 or better and sometimes this is deserved and sometimes it isn't.  Now most sites also tend to over rate games if they have great visual on the HD consoles as well...

I agree they could be more subjective with their reviews but honestly they are far more Wii friendly than just about any other gaming publication.
