I just get pissed when sony are praised for been a gaming giant when actually they are nothing more than a gaming purchaser.
When people look in the history books in many years to come, people will KNOW that the best games on sonys ps1 were ALL made by 3rd or 2nd party developers.
Nintendo will be respected till the world ends for making some of the greatest games of all time.
How anyone can have even a shread of respect for sony baffles me. |
Sony's awesome 1st party games:
Crash Bandicoot games
Spyro The Dragon games
Gran Turismo games
Medievil games
SEGA's awesome 1st party games:
Sonic games and...lets see...uhm... THAT'S IT
Nintendo's awesome 1st party games: (SNES generation)
Mario games
Zelda games
...and that's it

First of all, Spyro and Crash never belonged to Sony so that leaves you with Gran Turismo that could be considered first party only because Sony bought the studio that made the game. That leaves about one and a half of the games you listed for Sony.
Second. Someone beat me to it, but your gaming lisence should indeed be revoked if you think Mario and Zelda are the only games that are highly praised by Nintendo.
Aside from ignoring Donkey Kong, when the Super Nintendo had three Donkey Kong Country games, you forget the following franchises: Metroid, F-Zero, Starfox and so on.
When it comes to first party Nintendo is unbeatable.
Sega beats Sony in that category too. They had Sonic, Golden Axe, the Phantasy Star games (Nuber 2 innovated RPGs heavily) and Streets of rage were considered staple Sega franchises in the 16-bit era. Granted, they are not as unique as say Mario or Zelda, but seriously how unique is Gran Turismo?

Sony owns Naughty Dog- the people who developed Crash, and Spyro was made by Insomniac which wasnt 3rd party, rather it is 2nd party.
And besides Donkey Kong, the only highly (and i mean highly) praised game by Nintendo were Zelda and Mario (maybe Super Metriod but i highly doubt). Seriously did you saw all Nintendo comercials back in 90's? Almost all of them were Mario and Zelda.
And none of those SEGA games were as big or hyped as Sonic, maybe just Golden Axe.
And Gran Turismo was the best driving simulator back there and its the best driving simulator now :)

What does hype has to do with anything? It's how good the games are that matters. Spyro and Crash were owned IP by Universal, And if Insomaniac is 2nd party, then Killer Instinct should count for the Super Nintendo as well, wich it doesn't because It's not 1st party so spyro should be excluded as well. (And if you try to play the "DKC was made by Rare" card then that is wrong, because Nintendo and Rare made the game together.
Golden Axe were popular, and Streets of Rage was Incredibly popular. Phantasy Star did much for the RPG genre, so they should be counted as well.
Now this isn't even including the quality of the games. Crash is at it's best on par with the sonic games when they were good, although I would consider Sonic superior. And 2D mario for it's time completely destroys all the games you mentioned put together :)
As for gran turismo, what can I say? Wow a driving simulator, that's unique I guess *sarcasm*

Naughty Dog, the developer team owned by Sony developed exclusive game for Sony's PlayStation. That sounds like a 1st party to me.
And I am sorry, but i REALLY didnt heard anything about the game called Killer Instinct. I didnt hear anyone talking about it and i didnt see any comercials or screenshots of it. If i knew the game existed and that it was ''big'' and ''popular'' i would put the game in the list.

So let me get this straight bladeofgod.............. You haven't played Killer instinct?
It's one of the best 2D fighters ever made, i would take ONE killer instinct anyday over EVERY damn spyro game ever made.
And further up blade you only mention sonic in Segas section............. you need to check gamings history buddy.
That way you would also know that Sega made "you know, actually Developed, not bought"
Shenmue.
Virtua fighter. (Around before Tekken)
Virtua tennis.
Daytona USA
Jet set radio.
Shinobi.
Outrun.
Streets of Rage.
Condemned.
Fighters Megamix.
Huuse of the Dead.
Virtua cop. (Around before Time crisis)
Super monkey ball.
Space channel 5.
Crazy taxi.
Plus countless sequels for most of the above...................
and many MANY more franchises.
