I still think this game is great... but I mostly just drive around and watching the virtual world ...
The hype didn't detract from any of the enjoyment mostly because I never really liked the series and just thought of it as a shenmue wannabe.. so I guess when I got GTA IV I just didn't have expectations to match it against anything.. anyway the thing that keeps me coming back is just seeing the crazy things that randomly happens in the world
I usually get a little frustrated with the controls during some of those missions thats when I take a break and come back to it after a few days.... rinse repeat till it's done..
If you can you should try the lost and the damned expansion
I only got 10 hours into the game but I thought the storytelling was one of the strong points, something that isn't said about most other sandbox games.
Does anyone notice that Niko seems to hate killing people in the cutscenes yet does it without hesitation in the actual gameplay?

Yup, I know. I was proving a point. I am one of those people when it comes to redundant topics.
I see it as a throwback to GTA 3 and it does it right. I always hear people complaining about there not being planes and jetpacks and saying Saints Row 2 is better, but I recently played Saints Row 2 and the controls were so bad on the planes and everything that it was not as enjoyable as San Andreas anyway.
I was one of the few that actually loved it. Outside of gta4 my favourite is vice city. Gotta love the 80's theme it had!
I loved GTA IV when it released. It did so many things right. Unfortunately, it also did a couple of things wrong. The controls ARE difficult, and the friends ARE annoying. And the fact that half the game is one long tutorial is very annoying. So all in all it was not a 10/10 game for me, but a 9/10 game, that I play and enjoy.
I'm sad that the hype around it was such that no game could ever reach those expectations, because it truly was an incredible experience. I believe you are not the only one who has had this experience destroyed by the hype.

Yeah. I bought it at launch, but I had lots of studying to do so I ignored it for about two months, then I started playing it and enjoyed it loads. I eventually 100%ed it, even. I might've been negatively influenced if I let the hype get to me, too.
