Forums - PC - Is it possible that COD4 sold/will sell 10 millions (or near it) on PC?

.... Sure 10 million on PC alone, 22 million copies on all platforms.
And no comment from Activision about those numbers.....

Well said Barozi. Use of logic.

10 million is crazy talk. CoD4 is exactly the type of PC game that gets pirated, not bought.

Activision or rather Infinity Ward said that PC sales were rufly a 10th of how much CoD4 sold on consoles (although this was just a couple of months after release, and I agree that PC has longer legs).

I'd guess Activision meant 7 million copies shipped in 2007. Probably a bad worded press release that made shio believe they meant 7 million sold at retail to customers.

My estimation is that CoD 4 sold 2-2.5 million on PC, but many of those copies have probably been sold cheap on Steam at $15 or $20 a piece.

If a PC game sells 2 millions in less than 2 months, without declining rapidly, it can very well reach 10 millions. At least that is what I believe.

Infinity Ward never said anything about PC sales. They only ever talked about piracy, which in my opinion is silly because, like any sane devs would know, you have to look at is sales.

Why would COD4 sell only 2.5 millions? In it's first year it was selling around Sims/WoW level and was best seller in digital distribution. Also, COD4 never had a price cut :\ It is still selling at $50 everywhere (though I think there were a couple of weekend deals on Steam and D2D)

No major publisher, or any publisher with nearly all investment on retail, will ever admit publicly the success of digital sales, because it would piss off retailers and in the Digital Distribution world the publishers are mere developers. And Activision is a "console publisher" so it has even less of a reason to divulge numbers of PC sales.

Or maybe you're just wrong ?

But that's probably only my opinion.....

Actually Activision history is more linked to PC publishing than to console publishing. While they started out with their major success being Pitfall, it was not until their aquisition of Raven Software, launching games like Hexen and Heretic, that they became a known established publisher, as well as a relentless merger/software house buyer.
Nowadays, with the merge with Blizzard, and the PC version of their games, most of their revenue come from PC gaming rather than console gaming.

Unless you show hard facts what you're saying is speculation at best.

Nice, assumptions based off assumptions that are based off assumptions. Excellent way to prove something.

Lol...

It beat the DS version. Why you don't you take that victory and go.

Maybe when taking into account pirated copies.
