Forums - Nintendo - WiiConnect24 ON, or disc out?

If you are that worried about your game discs, then I would just take it out when you are done. That's what I do.

Just turn off the Stand By Conection, but keep WiiConect24 on. :P It really does work, you can access the Nintendo Chanel like that. You only need standy by mode on to use the News/Forecast Channels.

Yes, when WC24 is on, it keeps the WiFi on, but never tuns on the fan, so the system slowly gets hot. I personally don't think it is a problem, because the system is only using like 7w, and most electronics can dissipate that much heat with little problems. The disc noise is probably caused by failure not induced from WC24 use.

Yes it is a problem when the system gets slowly hot. My graphic board was damaged because of WC24 and little black spot on the screen appeared. I sent it to Nintendo and they repaired it. A few months ago the same thing happened again (although I really payed attention to unplug it every day, but I forgot it sometimes..), but my guarantee isn't significant anymore, so I'm going to sell it to someone, because I'm not ready to pay 70 Euros for another reparation again.

Did you pay for the repair? How old was your Wii when this happened?

I didn't pay the first reparation because of my guarantee. My Wii was about 6 months when it happened the first time. You get a new guarantee of 12 months but the second time was about 1 ~ 2 after the significant time of the guarantee.. so I would have to pay for it.

Take a look at my photos on flickr

Or, you can keep WiiConnect24 on, but when you turn Wii off for longer time (such as when going to bed), turn it off by pressing the power button for 4 seconds.

I have never heard of this.  What does that specifically do with the console?  And you are talking about the power button on the console itself or on the Wiimote?

Consoles owned: NES, N64, PS1, GC, PS2, Wii.

Currently playing...

Well everytime i turn off my wii i hold the power button (on the wiimote) for a few seconds. Are you talking about on the console?

WiiConnect24 is different than Standby Mode. Turn off Standby Mode and you save yourself the heat. Keep WiiConect 24 on and you can play every channel except NEws and Forecast.

Hold the power button on THE CONSOLE for untill the LED turns red. Its normally orange if Standby Mode is on.

@VivaLaWiida: Ok. I though you meant you paid 70€ for the first repair.

I haven't had any problems with WiiConnect24 turned on. And i keep my Wii in a shelf that is closed with glass doors.
