There's limited PvP in the game. The last true PvP game was EQ in servers like Rallos Zek and Sullon Zek. Of course all that got killed by stupid instanced events.

How many people play Final Fantasy XI? And are the PS2 and the 360 versions on the same server?

They're definitely all on the same server because I remember people bitching that all the console players were idiots.

I've actually thought about trying to for the 360 a few times, I just don't feel like blowing the full money on the game. If I ever see it for rent again at Movie Trading Company I'll probably rent it just to try it out, though I know playing that version would always be my last resort to playing because I can't use a keyboard (and not buying the chatpad thing).

Right now I have it set up on my crummy computer in my home office, my W7 laptop, and I might install it at work just so I can skillup my SMN skill in the background (it's close to cap but now that it does something really useful I want it capped).

For anyone that cares, the two new-ish things that SMN skill affects:

Elemental Siphon-- Take MP away from your spirit (yes, spirit, we finally have a reason to use them!).  You get more or less depending on the spirit/day/weather and also your SMN skill.  If you get your SMN skill over the cap you start getting nice bonuses.  It's a 5 minute ability and I generally get about 170MP if I just use any spirit and more than 200MP if I use the correct spirit because my SMN skill is already pretty high (about 30 away from crap).  One time I used it in the correct weather/day/spirit and got over 300MP back. 

SMN skill also directly affects your avatars accuracy and damage on the level 70 BP's for every point you're over the cap now, though I haven't seen any formulas for that.

They've also made it so that when you use Blood Pacts that can level up your summoning skill rather than just endlessly sitting by a zone and casting avatars.

This is making me want to get back into FF11.

I loved FFXI when i played it, the first 2 years of it where awesome, I guess the best part of the game is exploring, the world is Huge, Some areas require you to use Airships to get there, ect. In total i played it for 5 years, after the first 2 years it got dull, When you join HNMLS's and just camp HNM's and do Sky/sea event's ect. Well atleast i kept my fun doing ballista.

I'm hoping FF 14 will be awesome, I wanna get back into another MMO since i quit FFXI, But not as hardcore as i was with FFXI XD

-Edit- Oh, and btw if you want to play FFXI, Don't play it on the PS2 or Xbox360, Play it on PC It's waaaaay better, because this game is very mod friendly, You can mod the game for your character to look like link from Zelda, ect. it's really awesome and easy to do.
