Honestly the list seems unquestionable to me. If you ask a person who has little to no experience with gaming these are the ten they are most likely to be able to recognize and number one definitely wins in that regard.

Crash should have been in there, he prcatically introduced 3D gaming to the world, and proved to be great fun for kids AND teens.

This is not a list of innovative games! Its a list about innovative and easily recognisable characters. Crash did nothing for the mascot character that Sonic hadn't done before.
I LOVE ICELAND!

How did Crash "introduce 3D gaming to the world" and in such case, what did Mario do for 3D gaming?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
Did someone say Solid Snake wasn't influential? Have you played 1 MGS game? They are astoundingly good. Snake and his dad are PIMPS!

But good old Crash>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sonic. (sales and reviews anyone?)
Hell, Sonic got ruined after his 3 games, while Bandicoot continiued to live until Crash Tag Team Racing ( NOT Crash Team Racing on PS1) showed up
BoG, the list was about most influential. And honestly, Crash didn't influence much. When I compared him to Sonic I meant that he was actually the second animal-humanoid platformer with 'tude. Being a copy-cat does not land you on this list. Besides, sales and reviews have no place in such a contest when we are merely discussing the stars of the these games.

Nancy Drew shouldn't be on there, but besides for that it's pretty good. Master Chief should not be on there guys. It's most influencial character. Master Chief doesn't have one hundredth of the personality that Duke Nukem did. This is why Duke is on the list and not him. Number one is a little bit of a surprise but I can't disagree with it. Without Pac-man, the increase in the popularity of gaming wouldn't have happened, and Mario might not even exist. *gasp* Too bad Pac-man's getting tanked at the bar with Spyro, Crash, and Alex Kidd right now. :( |
I have been a huge Halo fan since day one back in 2001 and I have to agree with you about Master Chief not being on the list. This video is about influential characters not games. If it was influential games, sure Halo: Combat Evolved should be up there because it revolutionized the console FPS.
It was the first console FPS to truly work wonders on a joypad and the first to introduce brilliant third person vehicle combat and co-op gamplay. It even had a great story/game universe to boot.
Every console FPS since Halo CE has taken something from it in one way or the other and implemented it into their own game. Whether it be regenerating health, split screen co-op etc etc...
The Halo games are bigger than Master Chief. There are lots of other characters that play a vital role and get screen time.

Split-screen co-op was done by Perfect Dark prior to Halo, I must note.
