Forums - Gaming - To Demo, or Not To Demo – Does It Matter?

Source: www.xboxinsider.net

Written by Tamizander

I always, always try to play the demo of a game that I’m considering buying. I wait. I check Xbox Marketplace. Generally, I enjoy the game and rent/buy it to give myself more time to play it. Sometimes, I’m disappointed and I pass on the game. Nowadays, demos before release are getting rarer and rarer. In a world where we’ve gotten used to trying the game before we buy it (XBL Arcade, anyone?), it’s not as much our disappointment with being unable to play a game, but what not having a demo before release has become to mean to gamers. But, is there any correlation between a demo before release and after release? Does it change the game’s quality, or does it affect sales? Let’s dig deeper.

It's an interesting read and the author also qouted vgchartz.

Yes i would have wasted 1200 ms points on BF 1943. Demos and Trials are great. They just don't put demos for most of the really popular games.

I wouldn't have bought Infamous if it wasn't for the demo.

Some demos are really misleading though. Resident Evil 5 for instance, the demo doesn't do the full game any justice, the demo AI is just garbage.

At the same time it kinda ruined the feeling of gaining new powers (felt more like in GOW II where I was regaining powers). It didn't help that the powers they gave us were maxed out. And the powers that weren't in the demo were unlocked too late for me to use them a lot (the shield was fucking awesome).

But, yeah, I was pretty skeptical of inFamous until I played the demo, and holy shit that was a blast. And as I learned more and more how the game worked when I bought the game, did I full appreciate my powers and combat (using the force blast to shoot back rockets =P Using the good Megaton rocket to take out the flying targets with ease).

The Resident Evil 5 demo put a lot of people off the game.

But, a demo what made me buy a game...

I prefer not to play demos and keep the freshness of exploring the game.

So you just buy something based on bull shots and over inflated review scores (not like I don't sometimes too)?

It's a risk and trade off I guess, and I hate renting because I'll end up finishing a game and wishing I owned it, but when I do buy it I don't feel like replaying a game I already beat at the momment XD.

No, it's hard to resist trying demos. I always do it. But it was a nice thought, wasn't it?

Dammit I feel like a helpless consumer =(

demo's do matter. preferably before release. Usually if it comes out after release, it's to stir some more buzz from the people who haven't played yet. The quality of the demo depends though.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need...
