Forums - Sales - Wii Fit will trump Halo 3's opening week sales

So Wii fit JP > Halo 3 worldwide?

It's the crack rocks, I see.

Johnny, when was the last time ANY game in Japan sold 3.8m units week 1?

It just won't happen. There aren't enough Wii units in Japan to do that. The X360 needed 11m units to manage 3.8m units of a heavily frontloaded game. No one will be rushing to the stores to buy WiiFit week one like you think (think Wii Sports/Play).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I see a ban coming for one troll-worthy newcomer to the thread. The poster who names himself after sex with a female dog. Interesting.

Let me respond to the people mentioning Wii's current sales figures as an impossibility of my prediction coming true.

Halo's opening week tally will be finalized after that week is over, right? It will probably be around 4 million worldwide opening week. Everything AFTER this opening week does not go on the Halo 3 opening week total because...it's not opening week.

CURRENTLY as of October 4th Wii in Japan according to VGC has 3.66 million sold in Japan.

Why do you think this number will stay constant by December?

You know good and well it won't and the holiday season will spur on tremendous sales which is why I made those bold minimum 20 million worldwide end year claims on my first post here way back in March right before St. Patty's.

You gotta remember something. Wii worldwide sold just under 4 million by end of 2006 (GRRR! Wii strap recall!) in less than 1 1/2 months. It launched in the Americas on November 19 giving it only 43 days to contribute to that amazing figure. In Japan it launched on December 2, just under a full month, giving it 30 days to add to that fantastic figure. Because of the Immaculate Conception different regions of Europe got different launch days with some getting it on December 7, some on December 8, and some on December 9. So this respectively only gave Wii 24 days, 23, days, and 22 days to add onto that fantabulous figure.

It's not like that this time around and the Wii will have exactly the same fervor if not more this year than last.

You got 3 full calendar months to create powerful hardware sales for all regions. It's even launched in South Africa now finally! No China yet but they're bootlegging it with Vii anyway. Haha.

October, November, December. The traditional holiday buyer season months. People start gathering presents for loved ones at this time. I got my NES on Christmas 1988 and my grandmother bought it in October keeping it locked away until XMas day. Love my grandma.

Wii hardware will climb tremendously in the next coming months. That Japan 3.66 mil is not going to STAY 3.66 mil. And of that amount of all owners I see a tremendously high attach rate for this system in regards to Wii Fit. It appeals to the new audience in a whole new light. Have we EVER seen anybody merge the chore of exercise with the fun of a game and do it well? I think Wii Fit will pull it off and believe you me unlike in America where ads on this may not work quite the same, it WILL work in Japan and I bet you they are preparing Japan to get hyped up for this new direction. This will be the Brain Age/Nintendogs effect that fully turns on the Wii potential like Brain Age/Nintendogs did for DS.

Wii's only been playing with the competition so far. The heat is about to be turned up and Wii Fit is part of the equation that will make this happen. This game will eclipse everything for a long time chartwise. Giga Bowser Kaioken X 50 Ascended Super Duper Saiyajin with a cherry on top AND the bag of chips.

It's coming. And all I'm doing is getting you ready for it. Stay tuned, baby.

That is absolutely insane.

Kimi wa ne tashika ni ano toki watashi no soba ni ita

Nakushitemo torimodosu kimi wo

I will never leave you

well I am not too sure about that, personanly I think the opening week of Halo will be greater than Wiifit, but a much more possible scenario would be the first month of Halo sales vs Wiifit sales.
I also think that Wiifit will be bundled with the Wii in Japan and sold at the same price, (instead of a price cut) a very good reason to buy a Wii if you haven't yet. I think they really want to push this idea and with all the money they have made, this would be a good way to go.
Wiifit in Japan vs Halo WW? I gotto go with Halo. You could of said Halo US at least for fairness.

I'm not doubting that wii fit will outsell Halo 3 in the long run, but you didn't say anything that really addresses the fact that it's much easier to crank out 4M DVDs than it is to make that much hardware. If Nintendo had a super strong hardware manufacturing capabilities, then why are they only able to make about 2M wiis a month? Nintendo is always conservative about hardware production, and having demand much higher then supply helps keep the hype alive. I don't see it launching in Japan without supply issues.

My only response to that is that they are concentrating on getting supply for the holiday season when most attention is focused on obtaining the system. Shine in the spotlight, if you wheeel (a little Dusty Rhodes for ya there).

Nintendo will never escape their supply issues. This game will only make those problems worse in the months to come BUT I feel very strongly that they are doing their best not to miss out on this most important opportunity in the holy-days season. And that's because not only is the money more fluid there but the press is paying more attention and good headlines only creates more potential for sales.

I'm not saying they're purposely holding back supply but just preparing themselves for the great opportunity come October, November, December.

And if you want my real opinion, I think the temporary lull we're seeing in Japan may be in part due to people saving up for the Wii and DS later on this year and all it's producing. It's some really big stuff coming out this year. But you can take that opinion or leave it. I have no 100% insight since I don't live in Japan.

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we? The waiting is killing me personally but I'm a trooper.

It's me again.

And one of these naggling visions is bothering the hell out of me to the point where I have to post it on e-paper.

Halo 3 did TREMENDOUS sales on its opening days. ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS. RECORD-BREAKING and awe-inspiring. Totally impressed by Microsoft's ability to pull it off and standing in opera house applaud at their achievement. MS might as well be Celes from Final Fantasy VI after performing her part in that crazy play.

BUT

Here I go again.

I see something. I see something big.

Wii Fit is due in Japan before the end of this year. More than any other market Nintendo has a great command of what the Japanese people want. They've studied the changing demographics as a great portion of the population is aging and have included that in their corporate direction. Hence games like Wii Fit.

While it indeed will be popular worldwide and have legs that will last throughout the entire duration of the system's life much like other games in the Wii series, in Japan in particular Wii Fit will shock the world.

I'm gonna say it.

Wii Fit in Japan *alone* will TRUMP the godsmacking sales of Halo 3 on its opening week.

And the only reason I said simply Japan is because the game will not be simultaneously released in all markets.

If you include all markets together when the game initially releases this prediction stands even stronger and will trump Halo 3 sales further.

Halo 3 even sold in Japan pretty considerable despite that system being basically DOA over there. Wii Fit will do what Halo 3 has done throughout the world and beyond ESPECIALLY in Japan.

When Wii Fit hits this board will be in a tailspin of disbelief and I fear the moderators will have their hands full with people in disgust at these turns of events agitating themselves up to banhood as what often happens when folks take this stuff too personally.

People can never say I'm a boring guy. Who else has the balls to make these insane in the membrane predictions and stand by them closer than Tammy Wynette stands by her man?

Take your shots now and have fun discussing what I presented here. I enjoy the abuse.

I see Wii Fit being more like Brain Age in Japan then Halo in the U.S. it will have great sales, but only after it's been on the shelf for a long time.  I expect it to be in the 10-20 million range.  However if Nintendo doesn't advertise the game properly, it might never reach it's potential.  Let's hope for a smarter advertising campaign then the one they gave Metroid.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I see a huge lawsuit when fatties fall of the balance board and people die of a heart attack using wii fit

This is the only thing I worry about with Wii Fit. But I'm sure Nintendo will have the game warning-proofed up the wazoo to prevent the sue-happy.
