I already explained earlier in this thread that Madworld would've only sold 37 copies if it didn't have a chainsaw.

It would have sold 37 million if they had the right ammount of colours in the game, Wiifit and Wii sports have the magic ammount of colours in them and it shows in sales.

SMG was missing 2 colours and yellow was used once too much thats why it didnt sell more.

It´s a thin line but once you get it right it´s worth it.


This makes just as much sense as anything that I came up with.

Maybe it deserves it´s own thread with and in depth analysis game by game

Obviously additional sales.  Everyone loves a chainsaw. 

If it weren't for the chainsaw, the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" would have been a forgotten slasher flick.  Throw in a chainsaw and it reaches iconic status. 

When a game is to doomed for failure like Madworld is though, even a chainsaw can't save it.

The developers were idiots. You don't put "World" in the title of a game without counter-balancing it with a New, Super, Mario or Wii. If they had called is New Super Mad Wii, it would be at 10 million sales right now, I can guarantee that. Or maybe they should have ditched the "Mad" as well, not sure what that does, and just called it _

So going by what you guys are saying, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be the greatest selling game of all time if it has the right amount of colors. Is this right?

I haven´t really examined it that closely so I cant say for sure but from what i have seen so far it will be very succesfull, if Nintendo didn´t mess up the colours in other parts of the game (as they did with SMG using that yellow once too much was so obvious I don´t know how they didn´t see that) then this will blow your socks of unless you are wearing purple socks.

My socks are white.  This should work out just fine.

By the way,  I agree about the yellow comment.  This first star in SMG you have to step on all of the yellow switches in order to turn them blue.  Nintendo made a miscalculation and thought that they could get away with this.  By the time that you switch all of the yellow switches to blue, it is far too late.

Exacly and according to mine calculations the penalty for that misscalculation is belove 10 000 000 sales the first 3 years.

I have been looking in to this for a while and there are some basic numbers you can follow.

Yellow guaranteed 100 000 sales
Red guaranteed 200 000 sales

Right combination of red and yellow is guarenteed 500 000 sales
Wrong combination of red and yellow is guaranteed - 50 000 sales each time the mix is used.

It´s a whole science but once you get to know the numbers it makes colorful sense.

No not at all espexially if you balance them with some blue and purple, if done right you have a title that will never stop selling.
