Wall of text = MS / Nintendo fanboy crap.

I owned both a PS1 and PS2, and a huge amount of games for both.  Nintendo is historically my favorite company, but I hate the Wii.  I prefer the 360 this generation because I feel like it is the best console for me, but it has nothing to do with it being Microsoft or me hating Sony.  I've even been considering a PS3, because some of the exclusives look quite exciting.  If anyone here is a fanboy, it's you, who automatically assumes that any dissenting opinion is ridiculous and doesn't have so much as one logical statement to support his point.

Yeah I think the PS4 will be Sony's last console.

Go the way of sega? Lose tons of 3rd party support and kill their reputation. Seg Staturn?
Than start with a new system get a head start than it fails when the  wii 2 or 720 threaten
it and it dies and sega drops out. nah. I think its a genesis and the 360 is the SNES.
SNES has tons of exclusives and muiltiplatform and the same goes with the genesis.
Its MS's greastest rival.Sells almost like it. Its bascily like 1992 only that the 3rd
competer the turbo system (don't remember its name) is selliong tons instead of selling bad

Tag:I'm not bias towards Nintendo. You just think that way (Admin note - it's "biased".  Not "bias")
(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

I really don't see what the point of introducing the PS3 Slim would be if there is no price drop... the whole point of Sony putting out the "PSOne" and the "PS2 slim" was to cut down on the cost of parts for the hardware and thus make more money per system, while simultaneously being able to make the system more affordable to the consumer (PSOne debuted at $99.99 and the PS2 slim debuted at $129.99).

Redesigning the PS3 would help a bit on Sony's end cost-wise, but if there's no benefit to the consumer such as extra features or a price reduction to make it more affordable, then Sony will still be in the same predicament that they are currently in.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I'm going to say this one last time....nothing is equal to the Dreamcast! Any console would be lucky to be a 1/3 of the Dreamcast!

Former something....

Oh boy..

My feel is the PS3 will prove to be one of the great consoles in history even better than the PS2. Yes it has had a very slow and rocky path, but sometimes you need a little tribulation to become great.

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

uhh how many times has this been said

the PS3 = the PS3

Nothing compares to it, the PS3 had a very bad start and then started selling really good, as soon as we see a price cut or slim it'll be outselling the X360 and possible the Wii for some regions and will sell very well. No other console was like that.

I am so tired of hearing stuff like this.  I'm not even saying that you're wrong, I just can't stand the assurance people speak with, because it's predicated on a few assumptions that are spurious at best.

First, it is taken for granted that there will be a price cut.  Probably there will be eventually, because without one they are dead in the water.  From a business standpoint though it makes no sense for a company that is losing money hand over fist to cut the price on a console that they are already losing money on at the current price point.  Furthermore, with the upcoming release of the absurdly overpriced PSP Go, a price cut on the PS3 is only going to highlight how ridiculous that price point is, thus potentially losing them even more money.

Secondly, people assume that a slim PS3, even without a price cut, is going to drive sales up.  I have absolutely no idea what this is based on, but people seem to firmly believe it anyway.

Thirdly, people assume that the only conceivable reason PS3 is in last place is because of price, and that as soon as the price drops it will open a floodgate of sales.  Now, you'd have to be an idiot to argue that a price cut isn't going to boost sales, but considering the amount Sony loses on a PS3 now, and accounting for the additional loss due to a price cut, not to mention their inferior (to 360) software sales, Microsoft could just as easily cut the price on the 360 yet again and steal a lot of their momentum.  I think it's time for some people (not even saying you in particular Gilgamesh, this just happened to be the post I noticed of this sort most recently) to consider that maybe the PS3's last-place sales are due to the fact that the 360 is the superior console.  If I owned neither, and they both were offered at an identical price, I would buy a 360 without hesitation over a PS3, and so would a large number of other people.

It's easy to talk about how a price cut is going to change the game immediately, but it completely ignores the competition, the economic feasability of a price cut, the price points of other Sony products, and a host of other fairly important issues.

All that said, you're right, the PS3 and the Dreamcast have essentially nothing in common besides the fact that both play video games.

1. That's the whole point of a Slim, the Slim means a cheaper console. They currently are losing money off the PS3 but I dought by much, and neither of the RSX or Cell chip has been reduced to 45 nm (theres where the console gets much more cheaper)  its still at 65nm/65nm. So as soon as both chips get shrunk down then everything else can pretty much get shrunk down aswell (power brick, case, there shouldn't be as much heat etc). So with a Slim they should be able to have atleast a $50 price cut and make profit. Even if they still lose money they get most of that back from the games. And about the PSP Go, I don't see why a $300 or $350 PS3 would affect the PSP Go sales, sure more people would go for the PS3 but thats kinda what Sony wants, the PSP Go in my opinion is made for two things, to make profit (because obviously it's cheap to make, and they should make a good bit of money off it) and to get the digital downloads started.

2. A PS3 Slim is like the PS3 being reborn basically, it'll look different smaller and more attractive to the average consumer. Also the Japanese love stuff like that, that's where sales should really improve.

3. I disagree with many things you say here, it's just your opinion. Obviously it's the price thats holding back the PS3, don't you remember how the PS3 was outselling the X360 for basically three quarters of 2008 until the X360 got the price cut (and the PS3 was still more expensive before the X360 got the price cut). $400 and $500 is a fairly high price especially now in this economy, a $300 or even $350 PS3 would improve sales drastically, not to mention the PS3 hasn't had a price cut since late 2007 (im pretty sure) so a price cut would really boom sales. Now I have to disagree on your comment about X360 having the better games, IMO the PS3 has a far better library of games. Also if Microsoft cuts the price on the X360 it wouldn't be as big of a deal as a PS3 price cut. First of all the X360 just had a price cut, and even if they did cut it, it wont be by more the $50 and really it's already $200 bucks thats already cheap as hell (sure sales will boost but it won't last). And of course the reason for the PS3 being in last place is because of two things, a horrible start in this generation and the price.

@finalsquall : I definitely agree. PS3 already dominates actually with games like MGS4 or KZ2...

The Dream cast was a terrible system seller. The PS3 is not a terrible system seller. No comparison can be made agreeable between the Dreamcast and PS3.
