Forums - Nintendo - Dual Analog Vs. IR controls

I have always liked the Wii's IR controls. Games like Trauma Center rock.

Most motion controls aren't been very beneficial for the genres i like. It really detracts from the experience when they don't work properly and I wished they had a fully accurate remote before attempting.

I wish that PC developers would give us an IR gaming renaissance on the Wii. I suppose they are too busy making pretty graphics.

Dual analoge is more last gen then the Wii-graphics

I've always struggled with dual analogs because I started gaming with the Atari VCS 2600. You moved with the right hand and pressed the button with your left. Dual analog controllers (unless you pick up a left handed controller) are the opposite way around.

I decided to buy a PS2 instead of an Xbox many years ago because left handed controllers were available for the system.

I'm actually right handed, the Atari joysticks were right handed and now dual analog sticks appear to be left handed controls to me. I still think about buying a 360 every now and then but as far as I know left handed controllers aren't available. You can switch the analog sticks around in-game for some 360 titles but this doesn't stop the buttons being on the 'wrong' side.

The remote and nunchuck are excellent for me. :oD

I see it like this. Every type of game except fighting games like Tekken and SF can benefit from motion + IR but no one will see that until all console have the same motion controller with ir (or use motion to control a pointer/reticule) and uses it in there favorite game. Its just that a lot of gamers are being unreasonably because of the name Nintendo or they been playing games one way for their whole life and just do want to see the possibles of some other control making things easier. Thats what i see when i play with the wiimote, things are made easier.

JRPG- using the pointer would make selecting things way more easier and faster just like using the pointer for the wii menu instead of going in this rotation chain with a analog stick. For motion they could do something like swing the wiimote by an on screen directions (like NMH, Ghostbusters) like how you would do with buttons (Xenogears) to do combos.

Boxing- I'm very good at punchout with the nunchuk+ wiimote. It's very fast to me. Fight Night would be great with motion controls.

For shooters IR is better

Sorry double post...

The best Wii games don't even use motion control in any significant way, though. Galaxy, Brawl and Zelda I mean. Unless the controls are completely broken they don't add or detract from the overall experience at all, really.

Edit: quoted the wrong the post >_>

and those are 3 great examples of shooters like the grinder.

For shootings genres, id feel sorry for the ones stuck with analog sticks in a deadmatch. Ive seen players at WAW at ps3 struggling to move and shoot at half the speed of the average wii owner.

LOL.  There are tons of people defending the analog stick controls in Fight Night Round 4 saying how much more realistic it is than button presses.  Then they come into Wii boards and bash motion controls...

@intro94

I did post asking impressions on how IR/Motion can improve other genres besides FPS. Basically though, I think it is pretty clear that most genres except a few can benefit at least in immersion with IR, Motion, or a combination of both.  In many others, its my opinion that there is an increased accuracy that leads to better more competitive gameplay.  Nintendo hasn't done the best job showcasing this though.

I agree with OP in general. MP3 and conduit controls destroy any PS360 setup.

Granted I could see how this is more of a preference, but I think that if user who were familiar with both they would tend to prefer IR as well.

As for your genre preference, I would only disagree with racing. I really like the Wii Wheel in MK. People may be better with DA, but that may be just because they didn't really try the wheel. idk.

Guess someone like Rol would probably have better knowledge.

Yeah thats the one I'm on the fence on. I too perfer the wheel, but I think it may not be accurate enough to compete online. I haven't played enough online matches in Kart to say one way or another but my general feeling is it just a smidgen too inaccurate. Now just playing the computer or for fun, I like motion all the way.
