Forums - Nintendo - Dual Analog Vs. IR controls

^

If you like RTS and would ever even give a soccer game a try, rent PES. It is a sports game that plays like an RTS (gives you control of the entire team), and makes me think Basketball and Hockey should be done in the same way...

If there's someone out there that says that dual analog still works better for aiming than IR, they'll change opinion as soon as they're console get's IR controls ;)

^Mapped to what Wiimote gestures that don't interfere with aiming? Remember that in this game of yours we're not counting the face buttons because we can't leave the right thumbstick.

Usually a forward thrust for zoom, melee or grenade.  Left or right rotation for alternate fire.   Reload is a quick shake.

Viper1 already listed some actions which can be mapped to wimote movements. And I am sure I've had some of those already in Wii-Games.

In Ghost Squad you moved the wiimote away from the screen to reload.

In another game the forward thrust with the wiimote was used as zoom ... just can't remember which game, maybe Red Steel ...

And there was also a game, where a swipe with the wiimote was used as a melee-attack (I think it was a WW2-FPS ...)

Ok guys can we just all agree that the ergonomics of the Wii remote isn't great and some of the button placements are horrible, keeping in mind that for most games the hard to reach buttons will never be used and obviously motions or buttons+motions can be substituted even when using the IR as the second stick...

And yet you dismissed the important part: that don't interfere with aiming. Thus no shake.

And before you tell me that you have the most steady hand of the world so that you can thrust forward without interfering with your aim, be sincere and tell me if you think that it is less disrupting than abandoning the right thumbstick for a split second to press a face button.

That leaves Z rotation, which is what I covered in my post.

Anyway, i suggest we stop focusing the disussion on this particular issue, everybody who has held the controllers in their hands can think the things over for themselves.

This was done really well in PangYa! Golf with Style, where it was used to zoom in and out of the overhead map. You could even use the IR reticle to focus on a particular area as you zoomed.

You know what I've been thinking about try out PES more and more, I may have to give it a shot...

sidenote: Also, someone mention that the other consoles and IR pointing, I believe that is part of Nintendo's patent, reason why you see both of the other motion tech with camera's I believe. A lot more is going to have to go into those system in order for the use to get the same "IR" effect.

...Reason why recently I believe Sony stated that their motion techRIGHT NOW has a large overhead, and you have to program for it.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Regarding the Sniper zoom...I think that MOH:Heroes handled Sniper zoom the best with just a turn of the wrist...doesn't throw your aim off at all. REALLY if you have a creative development team, button placement, or LACK THERE OF won't be an issue.

@OP
This is why I don't like that console developers and the players believe that the console Manfucturer is responsible for online service. Because of this screwed up mentality and the fans(developers and players alike) we have a overall shitastic online gaming environment. Why?
Because PS3, 360, PC and Wii players cannot compete against each other. See data is data regardless of machine or software source. As long as the data packet looks the same to a server then it doesn't matter where it comes from.

I want to see FPS players of all systems shooting each other. It would increase the online population signifigantly. We are left with the online population fractured.

So yes I would love to see The Grinder to support both, but in reality any developer could do this for their next upcoming FPS.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
