Forums - Nintendo - Dual Analog Vs. IR controls

@ docr

If you play The Conduit, you will know that is pretty much what they did. It controls pretty much perfectly given the Wii Remote's shortcomings. Only they one upped Bungie in that they allow you to move any button to anywhere you want.  Total customization>a few presets for people to get used to.

Also, Halo did do a good job of making FPS easier to play with a DA controller, but this is 2009, not 2003. Alot of their innovations (aim assist, automatic health recovery etc.) feel stale to the point that the pre-Halo conventions feel fresh.

My comments earlier about the ergonomics of the Wii remote were in a general context, not aimed at any one game.

A friend of mine who only plays PC FPS games played The Conduit with me the other day and loved. Here's the thing, I had to tone down the sensitivity of the controls because he couldn't play it otherwise.

After all the talk on these forums of how PC gamers like the Wii because of precise controls, I was shocked.. He enjoyed the game though and liked that the cursor wasn't always centered even though it was different to what he was used to.

I think part of this might be the need to keep the Wii-mote centred all the time, and the more sensitive the settings and the smaller the bounding box is set the harder it's going to be.  It's something you just don't have to consider when you are using a mouse.  I think it would take most Wii newbs a little bit of time to get used to it.

@hsrob, that's most likely the case..

whoa I'm late to this party! there was one key thing people didn't really point out so I have to put in my 2 cents, have you guys noticed how much slower console shooters have gotten lately in general? like movement speed, lack of jumping or really high jumping, even something acclaimed like CoD4 has in reality really slow running speeds and the sprinting isn't that fast either, that's all thanks to the shit that's dual analog and why I hate console type shooters nowadays. the speed is slowed down in general to compensate for the shittier controls(or with aim assist) and you don't have that problem with a mouse or wiimote which is the major difference. a lot of people also think of the wiimote like a light gun type thing for some reason when in reality, it's more like an advanced analog control if you know how to use it, it's pretty much a direct upgrade over the right analog stick for aiming and it's great, but I really do wish it had more buttons myself, that's the major problem.
