Ask yourself why Japan has a zero immigration policy - despite having one of the lowest birth rates in the world!

It's because they see their society and culture as somewhat fragile, there would be too much turmoil and problems with immigrants. They want to preserve their culture.

Is it a coincidence that Japan's economy has been stuck in neutral for over a decade?

But I don't remember Japan having a lot of immigration during its decades of growth either... America had plenty of immigration during it's economic  turmoils as well... including now (as much as people criticize America's hostility to immigration, we let in a huge ammount of people, if not the most out of all the countries of the world).

Yes and no. It has nothing to do with immigration or not, but a low birth rate in a nation is usually a marker for a some kind of stagnation in a society but on other levels.

If you are talking only legal immigration, then good. But with legal immigration, you limit the number of people immigrating. If you mean open legal immigration, then I say bad.

Speaking of Japanese society and culture. Immigration being good or bad depends also very much on the type of immigrants and where they come from.

If Sweden's hordes of immigrants were all Japanese, I'd welcome them with open hands and be all for it.

I think limited legal immigration is great, but you get too many people traveling to one area all at once.

The crappy thing about Japan, no, Asia herself, is the division within it. You would think that if it's only a matter of appearance then Japan's insecurity with immigration would be solved by letting in other Asians, but ever since WWII even speaking of Pan-Asianism is taboo (Greater Co-Sphere of something whatever).

America has a really healthy attitude, despite whatever one thinks. There's no such thing as an "American" name. At one point Irish names were considered Irish names, now they're really common and acceptable in America. Eventually the same thing will happen with Indian names, Chinese names (they already are pretty much), and Spanish names (again, they pretty much are already).

I think Americans have too little pride. I think it's unfair that the world has so much anti-Americanism. I mean, I guess I'm being a little bit hypocritical since I think it's stupid to be ashamed/proud of one's country, but it's just depressing hearing Americans constantly joking "Yeah, we're fat dumbasses", especially young kids in High School and college.

I think that if we start by changing the perception of America and Americans first, then that depiction/perception will become the role models, and eventually Americans themselves can change into the ideal they dream of.

Whether immigration is good or bad largely depends on the rate of immigration, how culturally compatible the immigrants are, and how well your country is set up to accept and integrate immigrants ...

Put me in other.

Its both good and bad by varying degrees depending on how different ones culture and language is to the immigrants and how fast people are immigrating. The faster the process the more difficulty in the short to mid term. Not to mention how bigoted the local population is has to be taken into account.

A person from England or New Zealand would have less trouble in Australia then say a person from Russia would for example due to the fact that both countries have common heritage with Australia, similar political systems and speak the same language.

However immigration helps significantly in regards to economy, food, culture etc. So there are definitely very strong advantages aswell. I couldn't live without french, thai, italian and japanese restaurants etc :P

So whilst I'm very much pro immigration, I think that nothing in life is a black and white issue, it really depends.

Oh man, I agree so much right here, and I feel a little inspired.

because you asked about immigration IN GENERAL, it is good, but of coarse there can be problems with immigration.
