Forums - Sales - Japan charts, week 27 2009, WSR second week, project diva first week

It's worth pointing out that Rorona was supply limited for at least half the week; the game completely sold out around June 30th/July 1st (yes, even on Amazon), and only got a restock in on July 4th. It's the week we're in now, ending the 12th, that'll really inform what kind of legs, if any, Rorona will have. As such, 11k is not too bad considering the game wasn't on sale for half the week, and it blew past Iris 2 even then. It's now within spitting distance of Viorate and Judie, and should pass them both by the end of the month, easily, even if sales continue to slide.

Good week for Japan.

Well, we know it's going to pass Judie and most likely Lilie. Not sure what Atelier Viorate is though.....

Fifth atelier game, released in 2003, "sequel" to Judie and the game which Rorona bases its alchemy system on. Sold slightly under Judie; in some places called "Atelier Violet" because the katakana used for the protagonist's name are really, really vague.

The third week will really tell if it'll pass Lilie, though. If there's an Infinite Space-esque restock bump, then it'll get enough inertia to pass Lilie's 90k and potentially post six-figures at the end of the year. If sales are equal or less, that becomes far less likely. Either way though it's already guaranteed to be the fourth-best selling Atelier title ever (if it does not surpass Iris 1's 80k in Japan I will eat my hat), and it's going to be a nice success for Gust.

Where are you getting the sales data for the first Iris and Violet. (we do have both in the database but they do not have the sales for them)

Geimin.net.

http://geimin.net/da/db/2004_ne_fa/index.php, search for イリスのアトリエ エターナルマナ; 80969.

http://geimin.net/da/db/2003_ne_fa/index.php, search for ヴィオラートのアトリエ グラムナートの錬金術士2; 58566. (Which I was erroneously remembering as slightly above 60k; which means Rorona is but a sniff away from outselling it as well!)

The results are pulled yearly from Famitsu, so they are accurate. This does confirm Atelier Marie's results by the way (220k in 1997), although it gives slightly odd results for Atelier Elie. Elie shows up in the 1999 list (エリーのアトリエ~ザールブルグの錬金術士2~) as having sold a touch under 60k in 1999 for a total of 161,000 units. Unfortunately the 1998 list was only a top 100 back then; Elie was released very late in that year and didn't quite make the charts then. However, if the dates are right for the beginning of the 1999 list, then Elie must have managed to sell over a hundred thousand units in roughly TEN DAYS.

Anyway, compared to history only the PS1 Ateliers have performed massively better to Rorona, and so far it's doing roughly comparable numbers to Lilie, despite being supply-constrained (and Lilie was anything but, after the success of its predecessors.) Rorona is set to blow just about every other PS2 Atelier title out of the water, though.

Very nice!

That's good to hear. So the ones VGC does have data is on is good.
