http://geimin.net/da/db/2003_ne_fa/index.php, search for ヴィオラートのアトリエ グラムナートの錬金術士2; 58566. (Which I was erroneously remembering as slightly above 60k; which means Rorona is but a sniff away from outselling it as well!)

The results are pulled yearly from Famitsu, so they are accurate. This does confirm Atelier Marie's results by the way (220k in 1997), although it gives slightly odd results for Atelier Elie. Elie shows up in the 1999 list (エリーのアトリエ~ザールブルグの錬金術士2~) as having sold a touch under 60k in 1999 for a total of 161,000 units. Unfortunately the 1998 list was only a top 100 back then; Elie was released very late in that year and didn't quite make the charts then. However, if the dates are right for the beginning of the 1999 list, then Elie must have managed to sell over a hundred thousand units in roughly TEN DAYS.

Anyway, compared to history only the PS1 Ateliers have performed massively better to Rorona, and so far it's doing roughly comparable numbers to Lilie, despite being supply-constrained (and Lilie was anything but, after the success of its predecessors.) Rorona is set to blow just about every other PS2 Atelier title out of the water, though.
