Well they never tell us in advance if they're going to cut the price. So we'll see one this year.

That logic makes absolutely no sense.

Basically what he just said is if in the future cutting the price won't make the bleed money they will cut the price. Tech costs are coming down. Just wait a while. Mostly every piece of hardware in the PS3 should be at least 7% cheaper to produce or purchase in the next 4 months.

I think they are breaking about even now with one first party game purchase on top of the console, possibly with an extra controller.

thats the best way

He will never agree to a cut months in advance because it will cause sales to drop.

i dont think they are going to drop the price
the slim will most likely be the same price as the current ps3
also sony is actually making money on the 160gig model
and losing about $40 on the 80gig model
but that was found out around the start of this year

Sony will definitely cut price this year. They have no chance of reaching their 13 million sales goal for the fiscal year without one. The Ars Technica mole has also confirmed a price drop for PS3 of some capacity. It may be $50, $100 or even $150. We don't know, but we know ones happening the same way we know that a slim model is coming despite Sony's constant denials.

I think it might make sense for Sony to make sure they are a competitor this holiday season and have a temporary price- cut through all regions of $100 and £100 etc to make sure they have a HUGE sell-through of the console and software and once the holiday is done put the price back to what it was... This would still lose money (if unable to do a permanent cut) but see sales of hardware and software (being the important one) rise dramatically) and the software sales should off-set some of the losses from the hardware!

Sony will NOT cut the price this year.

UK, July 8, 2009 - Sony's head honcho Howard Stringer has further rebutted claims that a PlayStation 3 price cut is in the wings, following a series of rumours and requests from the high-standing members of the games industry.

Rumours of a PlayStation 3 price cut have been steadily escalating, and the speculation came to a head when Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick made some spectacularly caustic remarks about Sony. 'They have to cut the price,' Kotick said early last month, 'because if they don't, the attach rates are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony.'

"He likes to make a lot of noise," came Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer's response in an interview with Reuters, "He's putting pressure on me and I'm putting pressure on him. That's the nature of business."

Stringer continued to defend the logic of not slashing the PlayStation 3's price point, saying "I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make -- how's that for logic."
