Inspired by this thread for 360 games, this is about Wii games you feel get ignored for their graphics.
But since this is the Wii, many think the graphics are easy, whether Wii haters or fanboys. Being less than top tier does not make the graphics easy to develop. A lot of Wii games still did things with the system that just couldn't be done last gen. Sure the system could have better specs, but it's not Nintendo's fault that would have increased the cost of the system. That was the damn laws of economics (lest we forget, Nintendo didn't lose billions to achieve those HD graphics). Anyway, this thread is to honor those games.
The Conduit is one. Reviewers largely dismissed how many effects the developers crammed into it. Sure it was at the cost of textures, but the Wii only has 24MB for textures (typically) compared to 256MB (typically) and only 8 TEV pipelines compared to the 24/48 shader pipelines for the PS3/360. They still managed to achieve loads of effects that many take for granted on the HD systems.
You don't have to like Chop Till You Drop. The fact is that 80-90% of each mall section is recreated, with only half the drop in texture resolution, while still keeping loads and loads of small details. Remember that house in Resident Evil 4 when you first see Ada is there? Now multiply all the detail in that house by about a dozen and a half (in short, you couldn't do all that on the GC).
Mario Kart Wii recreates some areas from past games. So what? Aside from the Gamecube ones, which only gets effects added, the tracks from the N64 and SNES get full makeovers. And even if the graphics are not that intense, those levels were also designed with online play in mind, and online usually means a drop to reduce lag.
Twilight Princess didn't need to be delayed another year just to enhance the graphics for the Wii. They are still some of the best of any game, shoving loads of textures, shading and mapping, animations, polygons, and effects, while having some beautifully atmospheric art direction.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
