Forums - Microsoft - 2008 Year of the PS3 ? - No big games anymore for the XBOX 360 and Wii ?

I agree. I wont be buying MGS4 when it comes to the 360. I would buy FFXIII, so i hope it comes to the system, though it probably wont. But yeah i'll have Cry on, Infinite Undiscovery and the majestic Lost Odyssey to keep my JRPG wishes fulfilled next year, not to mention anything else MS has up their sleeve when they start talking about next year.

The PS3 will have White Knight Story in 2008, along with.....er.....hang on a minute.....

...Weren't we supposed to be amazed at the 1m+ selling capacities of Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk?

The PS3 has *maybe* 3 real good, exclusive IPs to counter MS's 3-4 exclusive IPs. Bad part is, X360 has the difinitive Grand Theft Auto 4, which just about counters every smaller IP that PS3 will have.

So next year, it'll be a stalemate between the PS3 and X360.

What you forget is that GTA has always been a PS franchise, so I feel that many people will be more inclined to get that version. Also (assuming the 40GB has back-compat) I think that many people will "upgrade" from PS2 to PS3 at that time (with the help of KZ2 maybe) as they are used to the PS controllers, they get their back-compat and many other great games.

Also, Warhawk has sold about 200,000 (just under) in retail in US alone in 1 month. Worldwide, the figure is probably more like 350,000 including download, and with the $40 (no headset) bundle coming soon (so says a rumour) it can sell at least 600,000 this year worldwide. I think that Sony should sell PS3s with this bundled in, or pre-installed on the harddrvie

Believe it or not there really isn't that much brand loyalty from the general population when it comes to consoles; the fanboys care but the general gamer will choose whatever is cheapest or easiest.

When Grand Theft Auto 4 comes out you will see the following reactions from previous owners:

  1. (20%) Already own an XBox 360 or PS3 and buy it for that platform
  2. (15%) Don't own a XBox 360 and buy one for GTA4
  3. (10%)  Don't on a PS3 and buy one for GTA4
  4. (55%) Don't own a console, get excited about GTA 4's release  look into the PS3 and XBox 360 and say "WTF? The PS2 was $200/$150 when I bought it. Greedy F***ing Companies ..."

Good points, Happy. One thing to remember is that there will probably be a $300 360 Pro by the time GTAIV releases. Compared to a $400 PS3 and featuring top-shelf titles like Gears, Halo, Lost Odyssey, and Mass Effect, I think most people will opt for the 360.

At that point, unless MGS4 is out, the PS3 still won't have a real blockbuster title while the 360 will have several 2m+ sellers under its belt.

And, as wel all know, the 360 will have DLC for GTAIV while the PS3 will not.

You guys are foolishly missing the point then...a heavyweight is a PROVEN AAA game...don't even compare a game like Lair to Final Fantasy, MGS, or Grand Turismo...(Sure, maybe some fanboy's did, but don't cast stones at an innocent)

Lair (terrible game by the way), Heavenly Sword (fun but short), and Warhawk (great game) mean nothing to the casual consumer...they didn't play any of those on their ps2 (Warhawk on psone is probably an older game than most of you on this forum)...Sure maybe fanboys hyped those games up, but I'm sorry, those, and you, forum junky's don't determine AAA games, sales history and the 100,000,000+ past conosole owners do.

As I've said before...my 360 has better games than my ps3...I love both consoles, I just think the ps3 has a line-up to be reckoned with next year....if you don't you're foolish.

Crit fail: You just stated that reviews don't matter and sales do, and yet you're now talking about PROVEN AAA titles.  Wait, do sales determine AAA status?  What does it take?  5 Million?  Is that why Nintendogs is the MOST AAA title to come out in the last five years and Shadow of the Colossus is a steaming pile of regurgitated dog poo?

Make up your mind about what standard you're judging these games on, and don't just throw around AAA like it's meaningless.  (Which it is, last time I checked grades topped out at A+ - which the majority of titles people call AAA don't deserve)  Also, learn to spell Gran Turismo if you're going to try and make a point about it.

Tekken 6 will have a hard time selling even 500k.

The PS3 has the best titles in spring thats for sure, but thats only because they couldn´t get them out for the hollydays (Edit: squirl beat me on that one):, the 360 has some great titles for 08 already and I bet there are still some great ones to be announced, still to early to say.... the Wiis lineup after Kart and Fitt is a complete mystery but thats not a bad thing...yet.

Of course isn't spring normally a pretty crappy time for console sales?

For months I've guessed that next summer and fall will be when the Wii's success would finally bear fruit, under the assumption that it's dominance wasn't apparant until early 2007, and studios would need a few months to shift development, and then at least a year to get a solid title out of the gate.

For the 360, I'm sure MS didn't have a plan like "and then Halo3 came out and we all lived happily ever after." If we've known for months that Sony would have a good 2007, then MS has likely expected it for longer, and they will be prepared for it (or at least as prepared as they can be - sometimes even good preparation aren't enough).

Seriously. Just on announced games for 2008, the 360 can easily stand up to the PS3. Add in the fact that Sony has been announcing most of its games whilst MS hasn't even begun to talk about the next year and probably has more games up their sleeve, and this all comes down to one thing: MARKETING. MS will have a better line-up than Sony in 2008, but Sony still has brand-name. MS needs to SHOW people on a mass scale that these games are available only for the Xbox 360.

Okay, Sorrow, so proven exclusive franchises for next year that are exclusive to the PS3:

Tekken 6
Metal Gear Solid 4
Final Fantasy XIII - if it hits 08
Gran Turismo 5

4 actual "big-ish" exclusives. Am I the only one that isn't impressed?

I would Persona 4 and Disgaea 3, but those niche games that won't sell but are very good. Also, I must have missed whenever people hyped Lair, Heavenly Sword, AND warhawk to sell 1 mil each. I pegged Lair at 500k WW. (i was wrong) I had HS at 800,000 to a 1 mil. I thought I was being too optimistic whenever I had Warhawk at 300k WW.

Really? Because I think that people will get it for the 360 more, you know, the whole exclusive content thing. I'm sorry to say just sony fucked themselves early with this one. Whenever people come into my store that I would label as "casual" gamers they are all very money conscientious, they ask me how much systems run for and I tell them. 250 for wii, 130 for DS, 350 for 360. They stop me right there with their eyes wide open "three hundred fifty dollars?" THen I say "at least you don't want a PS3, 600 for one of those suckers (We don't have any new 60 gigs anymore) and they just laugh and buy a DS (or wii if we have one) I literally get people coming in off the street asking me what's my favorite console and I tell them Wii60, I explain to them my reasons and they see them as valid. WHen people come into my store asking o buy a PS3, I try my hardest to convert them over to get a 360. I normally end up convincing about 90% of people to get a 360 instead by just telling them straight facts. This is how this gen is, you've got one console in a league of it's own and you have two consoles competing for raw power & game library. The 360 having a better game library and the two being roughly the same as far as power specs go, it's pretty much one of them will win and one of them will lose. And you can argue about the future all you want, but all you can go by right now is the present, and the 360 is mopping the floor with the P$3.

Wii60 owns and that's all anyone needs
