Forums - Nintendo - Wii Emulation Users question

This thread is not "how to" about emulating the Wii, but just a simple question for who does it.

There's already some emulator out there that works with a reasonable frame rate, but I've always wondered how do you play the game if it uses motion control. Mario Kart is playable, so is Smash and some other few games compatible with the GC controller or don't use motion.

How exactly do you play the games? Is it possible to connect the wiimote and nunchuk to the PC and it works all good with IR and all that or what?

Just tell with what do you play it not how, don't get deep into the emulation detail or this thread will likely be locked..

You can get the ir pointer to work, but not the motion stuff I think. That's why you can't get passed the ship in metroid prime 3.

To put it simply, the Wii Remote works perfectly fine with a PC (I made Mario Kart 64 use motion control), and I've used the pointer for other little things.

Now, I don't know anything about PC Wii emulation but given a proper emulator that works correctly there is no reason why everything shouldn't work just like if you were playing on the Wii. However, this doesn't mean they have gotten far enough to actually have it work.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Yeah I've also used my wiimote for various types of software for PC including music players, physics software and as a pad for N64 too...

But for those apps, you only can connect the wiimote as if it was some ordinary external motion sensing peripheral. You can make mario Kart use motion control with a Microsoft Tilt Pad (I think is named sidewinder) and there are various types of IR peripherals out there.

The question is if you can connect the Wiimote and nunchuk to the PC and it being recognized as being actually the wiimote and nunchuk and use it to play on the emulators.

Because I've never seen a game running on a Wii emulator on youtube that gets past the title screen -___-'''

That's why I'm asking, if you can't play the games what's the point of having an emulator?

Not sure, but I know a friend is using freeloader. Got to play Tatsunoko while I was at it.

On a PC emulator?

Tatsunoko uses some type of motion control? I think not.....

Yes it does.

So you played Tatsunoko on a PC emulator using Motion Control with a wiimote?

How exactly was the motion control? Specific movements or just "shake to perform X action"

Not on a PC emulator but the game itself off a freeloader. It uses motion to use attacks and specials. I didn't bother with them, but my friend did.

If someone writes an emulator they can do the extra work to interpret the data stream from the controller however they want and get full motion/IR/peripheral support. No one has really written proper drivers for the Wii Remote (that I have seen) so most uses you may find may not support everything. Now, I'm not saying whoever wrote the emulators did a good job, but there is nothing stopping them. Odds are the emulators suck and don't directly support the controllers like they would need to.

I would bet in the future someone will finish out an emulator that properly supports everything, but there is a good chance that one doesn't exist now.

Now, as for why having the emulator if you can't play the game. Some people like to pirate whatever they can and refuse to pay for anything. I've seen some reports on what individual users pirated and some of the cases are ridiculous as the person would never have the free time to enjoy even half the content they pirated.

As for myself, I have no use for an emulator since I have a Wii and get no benefits from using one and even if I didn't have a Wii I'd rather not pirate the games. So I really can't contribute much to this thread other then theoretical speculation.
