Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario Galaxy - 720p through Wii emulator.

Dolphin on a good PC looks much better than the Wii for Smash Bros, absolutely no contest. It's not even debatable. Many other games though have bad framerates or graphical glitches, like Mario Galaxy. The Monster Hunter 3 demo for example runs at an amazing 20-25 fps for me with an overclocked q6600.

Looks about the same, with more pixels.

It should, considering it's just upscaled. >_>

It's not upscaled, it's rendered at 720p

there is too many jaggies in the flowers.

they didn't apply antialiasing.

i wonder how well this runs?

my 2ghz cpu can run ps2 games with a decent 40fps-60fps.
22fps at worse times.
coupled with nvidia 8600 512mb.

Zomg the extra pixels make this game look amazing!

>_> Seriously people wth, people bitch when they see screenshots and talking about how it doesn't look as good as ______ but put it in an emulator at 720p and add in graphical glitches and ZOMG AMAZING!

^Actually I think I never saw anyone saying that SMG looked anything but beautiful on Wii. And seeing it rendered in 720p, as well as all the other emulator screens and videos I've seen is interesting because it shows how:

1) With the established development costs for Wii games, they could have ended looking better if Nintendo had put a better GPU in the Wii.

2) The option of putting out a slightly revised Wii that can render at 720p could be viable, as it would offer nice visual improvements for old games, especially for people with really big screens for whom upscaled 480p could be quite jaggy/fuzzy.

Here are a few imahes to compare to... honestly it looks the same with fewer glitches on the screens that are running off the Wii

Cant seem to find a similar image to the first 720p screen but heres one with the flowers and such

Second picture this is running off the Wii

I think you can get better results by connecting a Wii to a HDTV with a decent scaling-chip.

^It's not my specific case, but upscaling on really big screens will not solve the fuzzyness of textures or the jaggies: upscaling will never add detail, however good the chip is.
Rendering at 720p and with AA, on the other hand, can bring out more detail and clean up the image.

Rendering the game in a higher resolution with added AA/F will yield better results than upscaling, this is what the emulator is capable off but currently there are glitches...mind you great work there doing considering they have to reverse engineer the code to get things working.

Looks...the same. Plus how can it be 720P if the image is in 4:3 format?
