Forums - Sales - Sept. Wii software vs PS3 software

As for your ridiculously stupid minesweeper argument.

I didn't buy a PC for minesweeper, I don't even know if my PC has minesweeper, the lack of minesweeper would not make me go out and buy Quake 4. It's a dumb argument. Most people with PCs don't even play minesweeper, most I would venture to guess don't even know where it is on their PC.

But according to him, if given the option and Wii play wasn't in the bundle they'd pay 10 extra dollars for no reason.

silent wolf - you make my point, your brother was shopping for a CONTROLLER. just because he choose the bundle doesnt make it a GAME purchase. its a CONTROLLER purchase with a pack in game.

how many idiots are going to act like they are shooting holes in my logic without even reading what i have said.

phalanx the $20 buck games would count, 100% of the price was to pay for the game. but in reality they prob wouldnt count because they were used games but if they were greatest hits selling for $20 it would count. but greatest hit's dont sit in top 5 of charts for 9 months.

theres not much arguing when people think you should count wii sports, a tiny mini game collection that is a pack in. i mean why not count the XMB as a game, it has sooo many functions and everyone that has bought a PS3 has it !!!!

It all comes off as some ego stroking to have 2 wii games at the top of the charts.

but that wasnt even the point of this thread. the point was that despite 3 million less consoles out there the PS3 moved more software 2 out of 4 weeks in Sept. and the monthly total was only 20K difference.

i guess seeing the non inflated wii #'s aggravated some of the wii bois in need of ego stroking?

how many copies would Wii Play sell if it wasnt with a controller? i would guess around Carnival Games level, 97K in 5 weeks. Thats hardly a game worth top 5 status with 2.3 million next to it. Anyone serious about breaking down wii software would have wii play in a seperate catergory, its called the accesories catergory.

Actually, no I don't.

The addition of Wii Play for an extra $10 was the reason that he bought the bundle. Had he not wanted Wii Play, he would not have bought the bundle(why pay $10 more for a game that you don't want), and simply bought a Wiimote without Wii Play. Therefore, it seems logical that Wii Play was the selling point for the bundle. With this we can deduce that Wii Play played a major roll in why the bundle was bought.

Good point.

Nobody gives a crap about Minesweeper, and that's beside the point. You either pay $40 for a Wiimote or $50 for a Wiimote + Wii Play. It's not anything like Minesweeper. Millions of people are going out and consciously deciding to pay $10 for this game.

No Wii fanboys are crying here...well most of us aren't anyway. Your ideas are just wrong. Most of us understand why you don't want Wii Sports counted, but Wii Play has to be counted...people choose to pay for the game.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Ok, the sheer stupidity of this topic has inspired me to make my first post, congrats dgm! Now I can understand discounting Wiisports, because it comes with the console, you esentially have no choice when you want to buy a Wii.. But please explain to me why the hell you would discount Wiiplay, a game that is SOLD SEPARATELY from the console?? Ok sure it comes with a wiimote, but people still have a CHOICE to purchase the game. And it's not like you can use the excuse that people buy them just for the Wiimote anymore, because you can now easilly find and buy a Wiimote. People make a concious decision to go out and buy the software, regardless of whether or not it comes with a controller.. Nice try dgm.

man if ioi says you're wrong, you're burned hard. I mean he hardly even posts.

The site could always add two columns to the charts, one for unit price and the other for grand total so people would be able to see how much money consumers are actually spending on videogames broken down by platforms. For example Wii Sports would be at $0 since it's a pack-in (the money would have been counted for it under consoles), Wii Play would be $10, greatest hits would be $19.99 or whatever they are, etc.

dgm6780, your logic is flawed.

Were Wii Sports and Wii Play sold as stand-alone budget games (much like all the platinum games on the charts) they would be selling in similar amounts - thus you can't just subtract them from the total sales.

All bundled, budget, re-released games are counted where I can get data for them. Super Mario World will be no different when I get round to getting the data up, same with Gran Turismo 3.

Uhh you really think Wii play would sell 2.3 million if sold on its own?????????  Even if priced at $10 it wouldnt sell 2.3 million.  But the fact is they arent sold standalone here in the US.

And vagabond i think ioi's 1,248 posts kinda speak for themselves and hardly qualifies as "hardly ever posts".

thats my point, people dont buy Wii Play for for the game, they buy it for the controller.  just like you didnt buy

your PC for minesweeper but you got it anyway.  i have no idea what you are getting at with the Quake 4

comment.

Its the same as saying i bought address book software and the cell phone was just a packin.

oh and ioi, you got any idea who banned me earlier today for debating on topic in this thread?  ben kenobi

obvisouly already fixed the situation but you do have an admin who is abusing his power.

I am done with this thread, count the sales however you want.  But its obvious the Wii needs Wii Play to make

its software #'s look respectable.  I mean without it the PS3 beats it with 2.5 times less consoles.

So you're going to leave before addressing my last post?

jeese, he refuses to address mine as well, and uses poor logic to pick what he wants to debate.

I didn't pay extra to get minesweeper with my PC. Argument shot.

If not for wii sports being packed in, wii would get a huge software boost by your reasoning. Wii sports should be counted. Still unrefuted.

He's leaving because he can't argue with actual logic.

I think that I will say this again, dgm6780.

I don't believe that people buy the Wii Play bundle because they want the controller; they spend the extra money because of Wii Play. To me, the whole selling point of the BUNDLE is Wii Play.

Just to knitpick; dgm6780, ioi said that he believes Wii Play and Wii Sports would sell at similar levels(I assume lower) to what they are at now, and not at the exact levels. Thus he knows that some sales would be lost if not for the bundles.(I would assume this is what he meant)
