Albert Einstein - The most important person of the 20th century.

Allen Turing was more important then Einstein.

Nikola Tesla is also up there.

At work yesterday we were talking about how big Michael Jackson was and who else is/was in the same league as him.   The thing is that Michael Jackson was no mere superstar, he was a Megastar and not many people reach Megastar stardom.  I see megastars as person who has changed the world with there singing, dancing, acting etc and who is know the world over and who can do they own work.

I would say who are megastars..  Elvis Presley, Madonna, Bob Marley

I wouldn't place Britney Spears or Arnold Schwarzenegger as a megastar myself even though they are both big stars.

Someone at work said that the Queen of England is bigger than Jackson lol.

Bruce Campbell from "Evil Dead". It doesn't get bigger than him. Groovy.

hmm... I forgot about him. I'd still go for Einstein.

I would say Einstein =/= Turing.

Both men are seen as the 'genesis' in their field. The big guy, doesn't get any bigger. Like Darwin is to evolutionary biology.

Musically speaking Id say that there are a few acts that could be argued for...

-David Bowie
-The Beatles
-Elvis
-Bob Marley

Yea, but Turing’s contributions are much more impactful.  He is probably the single most influential person responsible for a WWII victory by the allied forces.

Not to mention defining what a computer is, I mean, you’re looking at this right now on a Turing Machine. Not to many Einstein Machines around :p

Satellite transmissions are only possible because of general relativity. So that means no TV or internet without Einstein :P

Plus he gave the first explanation of a quantum phenomena (Plank made the first observation). He also explained Brownian motion. Einstein probably contributed more in one year (1905) than any physicist has in their lifetime since.

John Lenon, Bono, I dony know a lot of guys

In entertainment no one is even close to Michael Jackson in stardom power.

The persons mentioned so far in the thread like Bono, Madonna, Britney, John Lennon, J K Rowling (lol what?), Tom Cruise, Paul McCartney and Bob Marley are midgets compared to Michael Jackson. Laughable comparisons really (which actually just shows how HUGE Michael Jackson is).

And historically only Elvis can match MJ.

<i think it has something to do with him making pop music, hes good, but I dont feel he compares to legends of music like Lennon, Freddy Mercury, Bob Marley, etc...

Just look at Britney, she sucks in everyway musically but still she is a "megastar".

And Im pretty sure the Beatles are bigger than MJ, so calling them "midgets" compared to him is as laughable as saying Britney or J K Rowling in this thread.
