Forums - Sony - Everything falling in line for SONY...

No OP, the PSP go pretty much proves that Sony hasn't changed their strategy.

Anyway, if the Slim is released with full BC, then it's something the PS3 should have done.

If Sony releases the Slim, full BC, and 100 dollar price-cut, as well as cutting the Go!'s price by 80 dollars in less than 1 year from its release, then they will be making the right moves. Nothing "falls in line" in this business. You either screw up, or you succeed. If Sony does the right thing, they will succeed, but in all likelyhood, they will dissapoint, at least slightly. 50 dollar price cut would dissapoint, same price for the slim would dissapoint, no BC would dissapoint, 250 for the PSP Go! dissapoints, ect.

With a lot of price cuts SONY would just lose a lot of money...

It seems that SONY has potential to earn money with what I listed though.

PSP GO will make money, which is good for SONY.

ergh because the whole frikkin point of the Slim PS3 to sony is so that its cheaper to make than the phat ones

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Well no one can deny that Sony is doing better but as people have already stated $300 is the magic number for PS3.

I've been thinking about the PSP Go's price and while I think it's too expensive it is fuckin cute and they will be able to milk that price for a short period.

I'm hoping The Last Guardian is advertised well. It's technically a new IP so it could do better than KZ2 if SONY actually tries... The actually put in a bit of effort for KZ2, LBP and inFamous.

The PS3 SLIM will be released, which with lower production costs but similar price point, will bring SONY closer to profitability from the PS3 console.

The upcoming PSP GO shows that SONY are very willing to distribute software digitally.

SONY's recent patents which describe PS2 emulation using the PS3's cell processor has potential to allow all PS3s to have backwards compatibility.

The PS3 SLIM will not only be released with a larger hard drive, but access to the entire PS2 software library.

Hopefully, SONY goes the way of VALVE, and has sales promotions like 50% Shadow of the Colossus, before the sale of The Last Guardian...

alot of speculation there, but if it works out sure we could see all three players have massive christmases with the right combintation of price breaks and other changes,

of note, die shrinks on PPC lineage chips never go well for about 6 months or so and end up costing more (due to high failure rates), and generally have higher thermal leak then anticipated. (this will and has most likely effected the 360 too, around the time of the last 360 shortage production switch was going on)

a few rumors I have seen point to the slim being introduced at the current pricing structure, and then later (unspecified one month? after christmas? who knows) price coming down

PSP GO i feel will be a let down in units moved without a price reduction, bur thats just speculation on perceived value

I would like to see the emulation software they have been working on I know the EE and various other parts were all custom last gen and emulation takes alot of good code and power to pull it off right, it will be interesting to see which approach they went, and if they expect 3rd parities to pitch in with individual games and their issues I think anything above a 50% compatibility with no issues at all would be fantastic, more then that is just gravy, so i feel it will be a good move for sony if they have worked it out, its not that a majority of customers will use it but it will raise perceived value

I had not heard of a larger HD being issued in any of the rumors but that seems plausible

while no doubt that the ps3 will see a sales increase at 299, I had always heard that the sweet spot for consoles in general  (where they move the most units for their generation) was 199.

Im hardly saying the price cut wont help, and i expect holiday quarter sales to be up significantly with any price cut, but i do fell price point saturation will be reached quickly, at 299 and they can not hold this price more then a year without another drop, and if it  only drops by 50 6 months, or they will again be suffering slower sales.

though, this could be part of their plan, let the unit tough it out one more year at a higher price and next summer make it 249 with the new controller

Surely it will be cheaper to made in a medium-long term, but in the short term it's probable it won't be cheaper. Shrinkage problems, and space problems will happen, it's not easy to shrink electronics, and some things are impossible to reduce, as a hard disk or the blu-ray disk unit.

very very true and even more so with PPC lineage chips, to which the cell is a member  IBM, and freescale (formally motorola ) both have had horrible unanticipated problems slowing things down for up to a year or more, though average is 6 moths

I agree if Sony plays their cards right they can soon make a profit on PS3 and develop alot more games and maybe even get some exclusives.
