The A button represents the top of the racket, the B button is where the bottom of the racket shoud be, and the thin part of the racket is where the face of the racket is.

Tuoyo, I don't understand how this is awkward. I would find it more awkward if the B button was on the face of the racket and the A button was on the back of a racket like it sounds like you would prefer.

actually forgot to say... my biggest problem with the game is that with the nunchuck, I press the direction in which I want to hit (reflex) so it makes me run the wrong way or stop my running.... that kinda sucks...
Also I hate how if you run there is no way you can change direction quickly... so that if you anticipate a direction, there is no turning back...

Your first problem I also have had.  I've cut down on it a bit through practice.

About changing direction, I don't see this as a problem.  If you are running full speed in one direction, you can't just run in the other direction immediately.  I actually like this somewhat realistic aspect of the game.  Tennis in real life isn't easy either.

Not sure I follow you.  What do you mean by top and bottom?  I want it to be that I hold the remote at the bottom (so towards where the Home button is)  just like you hold a racket at the bottom (the handle) which would mean the top of the remote (towards where the control pad is) would be the top of the racket.  The part of the remote with most of the buttons (A, Home + -, control pad) etc would represent the front of the racket (my forehand).  So at the point when I come into imaginary contact with the ball on a forehand the part of the remote with the buttons would be facing the screen just like in real life the racket would be facing forewards towards the net and opponent.  The part of the remote with the B button represents my backhand.  So when I hit the ball backhand the B button is facing the screen at imaginary point of contact.  That is the only thing which seems naturally to me and if anyone is saying anything else is natural we must either be saying the same thing but misunderstanding each other or the person has been taking too much weed.

The A-button is on the edge side of the racket, not the face side.

As I said though, Federer has wrapped his thumb further around the grip, if you don't need to use the A-button in the game then you could do the same (so if you hold it normally with thumb on a-button, then move your thumb to the left and around to the side of the remote)

Maybe people in the UK actually suck at tennis? you know just like the English fotball team wich never win anything

Ah I see what you mean.  Doesn't seem natural to me though.  I mean the way he is holding it seems very natural but he is connecting to the ball with the biggest part of the appliance in his hand - the face of the racket.  However, with the Wii remote if I hold it that way I have to connect to the imaginary ball with the thinnest part of the appliance in my hand - the sides of the remote with no buttons. Imagine you were thrown a real ball towards you and you had to hit it with the wii remote or with a TV remote control.  Which part of the Wii remote would you naturally try to strike the ball with?  Clearly it would either be the part with the A button or the part with the B button (or on a tv remote the part with all the buttons or the underside where you put the batteries).  This is because it is the biggest part so you are more likely to hit the ball that way than if you tried to hit with the sides of the remote.

I think maybe I might have to buy a gimmick racket attachment (so that the biggest part of the appliance in my hand is the sides of the remote) for it to feel natural for me to swing in the way the game wants me to.

that gimmick would hold the remote wrong too tho :)

but no worries u can play GST also when u hold the wii remote "wrong" in ur hand and it works fine too when u have figured out the mechanics

The Wii remote is not that different in width and depth... only 0.5cm. I don't find a problem with assuming which is the face of the racket because it only acts as a handle (which on tennis rackets are octagonal) I just hold the Wii remote as it is meant to be held in all games, then swing as if playing real tennis. (In Wii sports tennis anyway... but as you should use the same grip in grand slam too)

Also... I would make sure you look at any plastic add on you get, because some of them get it wrong too (something I noticed when the plastic POS first came out)

What about golf? I mean you are "more likely to hit" the ball with the face of the remote in that too, but surely you don't assume it to be the club face.

another 4 guys i met today who were from the UK who played uhm how should i put it "not so good" :)

players from france were strong tho

Look at TWRoO's close up of how Federer holds the racket and you will see why the control scheme is much more natural than the one that Tuoyo suggests would be more natural.

Obviously he's high on weed that's dipped in opium after putting down a few pints.
