You are really true there! That games scars me more and more each time I play it! I nearly beat it once, but no, it was too scary so I had to turn it off!

When the little boy goes into your body to heal you..that piece of shit is scary!!

Besides that...maybe Dead Space and Bioshock? I haven't played the older games you are taking about...sadly :(

But I really got scared from Dead Space (only played the beginning because of that :P)

Actually, I gave this some more thought, and so far, the scariest game I've ever seen is Milo, for 360. 0_o

Pretty much any of the Silent Hill games, because Silent Hill is true survival horror, in the original games you're a person who is unskilled in combat and all you start off with is a pipe. The monters in Silent Hill are truly terrifying as well, real creativity involved in their creation.

In Resident Evil you're a combat trained person who either starts with a knife or a gun and you fight slow ass zombies for most of the game, lame. Now that its become an action game (4 and 5) its not scary in the least.

Also Eternal Darkness deserves a nod not necesserily for being the scariest game but for being the most downright creepy game ever... it's worth a playthrough just for the Sanity effects alone!

Clock Tower

Phantasmagoria, creepy and getting subtly creepier by the chapter. Plus the deaths were interesting and Don - the possessed husband" was a better joker than the joker - in terms of sheer creepiness.

Siren Blood Curse.. i still haven't finished it.. damn freaky game.
