Silent Hill 2

Disturbing, frightening and absolutely beautiful

Dead Space ( level 1,5,9, and 12 scared the shit out of me )
Resident Evil 3 ( I still have nightmares from Nemesis )

Must admit I was expected a different first post because I find Fallout 3 to be far from scary.

For me though it comes down to various games and various points within games.

Uncharted for example got me a bit jumpy when those zombie wanna-be's showed up and I was stuck down in the basement like area. Oh man did I hate those things.

Second would be Resident Evil 3. I played it when I was younger and that may be why it is on the list, but when dogs bust through windows or when I finally think I outran Nemesis, only to walk out the other door of a shop and have him leap down and be right there again. Oh man!

Then I would have to say Silent Hill 2. I knew this game was going to be golden once I began playing it. The atmosphere set the tone very early and I had my first jump no more than 5 minutes in. Walking down the foggy streets of Silent Hill, seeing some creature off in the distance. Later I was like "WTF! Did I just see something over by that van?". I walk over and expect something to come out from behind the van when I circle around it but no, the little bastard scurried out from UNDERNEATH THE VAN!!!

I jumped out of seat at that point and my friend began laughing at me.

The way u must play silent hill:

1- ALONE

2- In a dark room

3- After midnight

And belive me u will be like OMG! i see something by the bed (but u ignore it and act like u dont see it...bedcouse it cant be real...can it)

under those conditions, most horror games will have you going OMG.

i thought the fatal frame games were kind of scary, but only because youre fighting a billion ghosts with a goddamn polaroid.

bioshock, because being that deep underwater scares the shit out of me. the creaky water noises, and the dark atmosphere, and those scary little sisters humming their songs the first time you play it... JESUS.

its nice to see im not the only one who think of that in the silent hill games, to me the Overworld ... uh... World , is like a peice of art, the dark hallways the industrialistic atmosphere , the catastrophic areas ...ect

i would love to visit a place like that ... that is of course without the monsters xD.

i also think the music Akira Yamaoka also make it more artistic, it fits way too well with the game.

me too!!

The visual design in Silent Hill is fantastic. And Akira Yamaoka is one of my favourite sound designers.

Silent Hill 2 & 3. I loved the levels, music and atmosphere in those games. That fat monster in SH3 always scared me - I can't believe he can run so fast.
