Since I see this thread every week, I can see why a lot of people are being sarcastic.

Anywhos, Silent Hill 1 takes the cake.

as a kid resident evil was pretty scary to me. other than that, dead space was kind of creepy the first playthrough

I'm glad to see some one else appreciate this game! It really was something new and fresh for its time. I played it in 1996. I was only 9 and I think it was the first horror game I have ever played.

Sadly I own SH1,2,3,4,Origins and Homecoming but have only played through 1 and 2.

I own them because my Mother is a Silent Hill fan. If I have one, she must play it.

Doom 3 or Resident Evil 4.

I never played SH4, but you owe yourself to try SH3, it's excellent (and in my opinion, way superior to 2)

For me, it's Silent Hill 3. That whole game seems to be set up from start to finish to scare the shit out of you! I've never played that series with the ghost capturing camera (I'm drawing a blank on the name, here) but I hear it's pretty scary, too. Condemned 1 (I have part two and STILL haven't even put it in my 360) was pretty tense in the beginning, as well.

*edit*  FATAL FRAME!!  That's what it's called!  I actually planned on buying into this series on the Wii, but it never came out.
