Forums - Gaming - How important is online for you in a game? Care only for SP?

for military type shooters like COD 4 Ghost Recon so on i like the online play and it can be really fun when your playing with people that play together and work together as a team.

regular shooters like Gears, Halo so on i can take it or leave online play as long as it has a good SP.

Sports games online i don't care for. i find your playing time is spent trying to counter the tricks of the trade more than having fun.

all other games ill take the SP over the online play any day.

still most of the best games ever made was do to its single player.

Yep, i'm a girl

I prefer single player campaigns myself but every once in a while i go in for the butt kicking of my life in resistance 2 or or killzone 2

I am a strictly Single Player gamer, I think I've played SSBB and MKWii online like twice each just to test it out - I don't like playing with people I don't know because a) They are usually complete asshats and b) they are usually a lot better than me because they have put 100s or 1000s of hours into the game so I have a hard time calling them on anything. I find gaming more enjoyable when its just me or my RL friends playing - and I play games as a pass time to have fun so I'm not going to do something with them that isn't fun (the same reason I don't finish a lot of games I don't find fun - why waste my time just so I can say I beat it, it just seems stupid to me)

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

I buy games because of the singleplayer. When i read the reviews before buying i don´t care if the online is good or not. After the singleplayer is done i go online, but usually don´t like,  because it is too chaotic. The only game enjoy online is little big planet. Soon i willl try resistance 2 cooperative online. Sometimes i play sports games online, but when i´m winning, usually the other player give up before the game ends.

Online is incredibly important. Nothing like partying up with a group of friends and going from game to game.

I suspect the majority of people who care about online in their games are busy at this very moment playing those games online.

For me its.

If you have no online you get no more than a 8.5

If you have no SP then you get no more than a 9.

Multiplayer experiences are usually designed around beating your opponent. They are usually about competition, and being better than the people you are playing against. Unless you are actually better than the ones you are playing against, it's not going to be at all the same kind of experience.

I have never really been a fan of competition. I always feel sorry for the ones who loses when I win, and I feel bad about losing when I lose. So it's sort of a lose-lose situation for me. Meaning that multiplayer experiences have always failed to capture me. However, I have always loved to get sucked into a story and feeling like the center of the world, so singleplayer has a huge appeal for me.

Why so serious?

If you look at online play as serious competition, then that's probably why you dislike it. Unless you're playing in some organized championship, there's no pressure. I play CoD5 online often with some friends. We lose alot, but still have fun. It gets even more entertaining when the hardcore players with mics get whiny because you killed them.

I really don't understand why you'd feel bad about losing, or feel bad for others. This isn't a live sport. No one's losing anything. You actually remind me of someone I met in an MMORPG. This chic literally felt that it was wrong to kill other players in PvP (player vs player). She completely stopped doing it.

Anyways, I guess our tastes are just way different. I do love good a good campaign, but I specifically hate it when you play as some superhuman character in some cliche story that invovles you being the only one that can save the world. That's one thing I always loved about the CoD series - the missions are intense and for me personally, they tend to make you feel like you're just another random soldier (your character doesn't get much attention), but one that's working with a team as whole. It makes me feel like I'm fightin a signifgant large-scale war. I was hoping that Resistance 2 would give you that feeling considering the storyline and all the stuff the devs said, but the entire story was just another typical alien-invasion setting.

I only need one or two good multiplayer games a generation. For everything else, it is all about the single-player experience.
