Forums - Microsoft - Adds to XBL Confirmed! Major Nelson adress the issue!

We pay them and in exchange they dont plague us with ads.

When I put it like that it makes it sound like a protection racket.

It is like a protection racket. You have to pay for it just for owning a tv

You guys must not be really reading any of the clarifications that have been made about this. There are not going to be any MORE ads than there already are. (I feel like XBL is currently pretty light on the ads, enough where I can just ignore them and move along.) Most of the ads you see on there now are gaming related anyway. Isn't that stuff you're actually interested in?

Ads have been a sticking point in gaming for a long time. This is nothing new. I feel that MS keeps it to a minimum on the dashboard. They're not obnoxious about it. And for all you PS3 owners who are using this thread to rail on the 360, let me remind you that Home (the supposed savior of the PS3) has an entire Red Bull room. In fact, Home is almost like a living breathing ad, and will just get more and more so, as long as people actually start using it. Though I haven't heard a whole lot about it lately.

So those of you saying PSN is free AND has no ads, you're full of shit. PSN is free, yes. But it does have ads. And they're using Home as a way to get you to look at them. (It's ok, though right? They disguise them as interactive "rooms".)

And to those of you who are 360 fans and are getting all hot and bothered about this, you're not reading the story. You are taking one little thing and announcing that the sky is falling. There are going to be no MORE ads than XBL already has. They'll just be better video quality. You're just complaining to complain even after this has been clarified.

Well the RedBull room dosent really have commercials, it just have planes you can fly. Like the RedBull Air Race thingy. And just because the room is named RedBull you dont reall have to be plauged with ads telling you to click on this and that and to buy redbull. Theres just planes in the form of a minigame with a leaderboard. So thats a bad example.

BUT, the main square of Home does have ads on "billboards" and in the "theater". But, in their defense, you dont have to be apart of home and you still get the full PSN experience, and that without ads. Unlike the 360 in this case. And Home is not by any means a "supposed savior of the PS3", thats just wrong. Dont know where you came up with that one.

And yes, like you said.. most people just like to complain for the sake of complaining, without really reading up on what Nelson tried to clarify. But many do feel that since they pay for the service, they shouldnt have to be confronted by ads.

There are no ads on the NXE that you have to see. The menus are set up where the first option in the row is always the main one. The ads are to the right, and few of the slots are even ads. So you do not even have to worry about ads to be honest.

I don't think ads are bad if they're done tastefully and do not distract you. Heck they might even show something useful like a current sale for EB/Gamestop. As long as its not jarring or block functions then it's all fine.

Example: I don't think I even notice the ad that appear right below the 'quick reply' box on this site, it's small and tasteful and if it's something I'm interesting in, I might even click it. That annoying dragon MMO ad that pop up covering the bottom of the screen though is damn annoying.

You deserve to be raped if you still use that

I kid! I kid! Using IE is punishment enough as is. So what did you do? Pissed off the interweb god?

I bought a new laptop and haven't bothered to download Firefox yet. I guess the last few months kind of got away from me.

Wow you must have a great pain tolerance... I'd last a week top before my head explode.

Confirmed a long time ago, since those kinds of ads are already on XBL.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure what the big fuss is, because there is really no reason to spend so a lot of time on the dashboard anyway.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
