Forums - Gaming - Nothing generic about 256 multiplayer on consoles

Hmm, i'd beg to differ with the title. Traditionally I havent had more fun in matches with more players, I dont see how going up to 256 will be considerably funner than normal multi

I agree... tough I have confidence in Zipper that they will pull off a great multiplayer game IMO it wont be revolutionarry... it will gather a fanbase like the SOCCOM series but I doubt it will do miracles ;) When it comes to FPS Im  fine with 4vs.4 anyways :P

some people really want this to fail as they do every game thats released on ps3.

i on the other hand just want to enjoy great games on all platforms, and mag is certainly one on my radar. the amount of great games out this year is breathtaking

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

LOL @ the black guy wearing Jordans at 1:12. Anyways, 256 is great and all but I'll skip MAG. I'm getting tired of all these FPS games.

This game looks awesome.

Whoever said it was generic? I admit it is a great idea and i'm glad they are trying to make actual squad-based team work systems to this scale.

At the same time the people playing will never be able to cooperate to the level this game requires and thus will result in a giant mess. I predict mediocre sales/reviews similar to the last few Socom games.

Question

How many is a few to you?? I can only think of a single socom that got poor reviews... I can't think of bad sales...

MAG IS generic, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. CoD, Killzone and even Halo are all generic, yet people love those games. I'm not really sure about 256 players, tho

sorry - how on earth are you using the word "generic"?

MAG is not generic, but it would be extremely hard for Zipper to pull off. From what I have seen there a many elements which are unique to the game like the player focused multiplayer where everything done on the map was player based. The issue is to make all the different roles fun because otherwise the whole system won't work if noone wants to run the supply ships etc.

Tease.

I foresee clans being pretty much mandatory. Their will have to be cooperation to pull this off. Many clans playing against each other, awesome. 256 random players not working together and doing what they want, bad. Mics will also be a necessity. I hope it will be good, it would be the first multiplayer game I play online with the PS3.

I think the squad based thing is a great idea, but I'm not sure how many people outside of organised clans will be willing to cooperate with each other on a large scale.

Also, from what I've seen, it looks pretty generic. That's not necessarily a bad thing of course, they label halo generic, call of duty generic and battlefield generic, and I love all those games. As long as the fundamentals are done right, generic is not a bad thing. As long as they have some creativity in there that works, it'll be a great game.

I only hope there's a big enough community for this game to succeed and that it won't turn out like call of duty, where the side that's all clan people always wins unless you're ridiculously good that you can overturn a 6+ person advantage they have. (which is basically impossible for death match game types).
