Finally. Sony needs to be competitive, and this should help them considerably.

Engelos, are you against a 400 PS3? Why, do you want the system to get killed this christmas?

Iam agianst people posting their uneducated opinion as fact.

Is it to hard to think that if they are cuting the price its becuse they can ?

I am against people posting deeply flawed logic so their console of choice doen't have something bad said about it.

You dont "just" cut the price for the hell of it as thats dumb buisness. MS could cut the price of the 360 right now and still break even, but that means they'd lose potential profit.

Sony is cutting the price because they absoloutly need to. If not, this Christmas would see really shitty PS3 sales and that might be the final straw for many devs, and could really spell the begining of the end (as far as being competitive, not as in dying)

But feel free to claim Sony is cutting the price because they can, so they can lose plenty of profit - or lose less money on each PS3 sold, depending on which report you beleive.

@sinha

typical over the top trolling

It's not trolling, it's a joke.  And given that they're already dropping the price by $100 every few months, it's not that "over the top"...

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

wow that would have taken all of what 5 minutes in illustrator, really whay not an ad page, generaly they are at press within the next week. i will be convinced when i see a scan or better a picture of a stack of ads with one zoomed in on top.

Do what I did.  Call a friend who works for BB and ask them to search for the product and they'll confirm that for you.   It's real.

The costs of Blu-Ray winning the format war could bring in A LOT of money. I think Sony understands that and is willing to slash the price. They already have 90% of the hardware manufacturers behind them on Blu-Ray too.

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. i think you're the only one who actually took my opinion as fact for some unknown reason.

what are you even being defensive about?  i basically said it's what sony NEEDS to do--it leads them into a price war with Microsoft, but that's unavoidable, unless the two companies collude.

the Wii is an epidemic.

And at the time of the "clearance" of the 60gb, Sony was quoted as saying that production costs had dropped to the point at that time of breaking even.

You'll have to provide a source for this one. Last I heard, they said that they were expecting to break even "later rather than sooner", and they weren't sure it would happen before the end of the fiscal year. This was on their latest fiscal report conference, where they wouldn't tell lies to their investors...

This looks pretty legit considering those pics from that European magazine. Soccer FTW or something. Crazy Europeans. They aren't as crazy as the Japanese though...
