Forums - Gaming - What is the difference between Gran Turismo and Forza?

I'm not trying to ignite a fanboy war and ask which one is better, I don't care, I'm just curious what's different about them other than one is a Playstation franchise and the other is an Xbox franchise.

So don't tell me one has 500 cars and the other has 800, I'm not looking for that because that's not really the kind of difference I'm looking for.  Also, don't spout off things like texture resolution or this one looks better, I don't care about that either.

I'm just curious what is actually different about the game.  Do they both offer real world tracks or lifelike? Do they both offer real life cars?

Sorry for being clueless as I'm pretty clueless about racing games in general, I'm just curious.  These games look exactly alike as far as I'm concerned and I'm just wondering what drives people to say they're so different that one is definately better than the other.

This is honestly the only difference between them that i see lmao

Two things I like about Forza are the complete customization of the cars, both the interior and exterior of them and the auction house where you can buy and sell vehicles eBay style. I don't think GT has either. I could be wrong though. Other than that, I find both games to be bland and sterile, but I suppose that's the appeal of them. What I'd like would be a game as lengthy and in depth as them, but with a more exciting racing engine behind it.

The way I see it, a good 95% of both games are fairly identical. It's that little 5% that everyone pulls their favorite from. If the genre is your cup of tea, I don't see how you could go wrong with either game.

There is a very, very good chance both of those features will be in GT5.

Have you tried Grid, it is still simulation racing, but slightly less realistic and a flashback feature. I thought it was great fun, because it feels more relaxed than GT

the biggest one is polish.

GT is made by polyphony digital.
the head of GT is a perfectionist.

from the sounds of the engine, and the weight of the cars everything is recorded and tested by the studio with real cars and it shows when compared to other racers

also GT is a name in the sport itself, companies come to GT to show their cars because they trust the quality the put in the game.
the other is sony give a huge budget to gran turismo, their studio have actually access to the cars and they even make a REAL car with citreon design by polyphony and many their own nissan skyline.

they also design the graphical interface of the nissan GTR.

^^^^ this

i hate to pick a side but this is the real difference dont know why everyone is ignoring it

so to everyone who says the cars in GT all sound the same.. yea get your head out ya ass

If I can be as general as possible? Going by previous games of the franchise?

- Graphics
(GT has always been king in visuals historically speaking).

- Game Content
(GT has always been king in regards to sheer amount of content and let's face it, in a racing game content is everything).

- Car Damage
(Forza has had this where as Gran Turismo hasn't).

- Car Manufacturer backing / licensing
(Again Gran Turismo has this. For example, Mitsubishi was using the Gran Turismo game engine to do tests for their actual cars). This is huge for racing fans, especially with the inclusion of Nascar and others.

- Game Polish
(Some might say quality but I would say polish is the better word. Gran Turismo is one of those practically bullet proof games that is completely polished. Everything from the menus to the music is sleek, stylish and perfected. Every last detail has been thought of. Forza while a great game just has never had this level of attention to detail. To some people that may not matter but the polish difference between the two games is immense in my opinion.

Overall both are good games with their advantages and disadvantages. Gran Turismo has been a selling power house for a reason though and much of that is due to overall quality from top to bottom.

That would be very cool for GT owners. Outfitting my cars in new colors, stripes, decals, etc. and putting in new exhausts, engine blocks, etc. and then putting cars on the market and buying others from people online is my favorite feature of Forza, and if it weren't for the boring racing I probably would have played the game forever.

@Munkeh-From the reviews I read on Grid, it has a very low number of vehicles and no customization to the inside of them to improve performance. I might still pick it up when it's cheaper, but at the moment I can get my arcade racing from Burnout Paradise until something comes along to mesh the best of both worlds.

I noticed everyone seemed to ignore the one comment in this thread that pointed out one of the (in my opinion) major differences between these two titles.

Cars per race:

Forza 3 - 8 cars per race

Gran Turismo 5 - 16 cars per race.

Anyone who acts like this means nothing is insane in my opinion. It means a lot, especially when it comes to online play.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

GT5 has way more tracks and way more cars. They look the same visually so the only difference is Gran Turismo has far more content.

The games seem equal and only picky people who have specific preferences will think that one game is truely better then the other (PS3 vs. 360 fanboys). The biggest difference is that Forza Motorsports 3 comes out in October and Gran Turismo 5 is currently scheduled for May 2010 (Gamestop's web site). Both will go down as epic games though.
