What is the difference between Gran Turismo and Forza?

I noticed everyone seemed to ignore the one comment in this thread that pointed out one of the (in my opinion) major differences between these two titles.

Cars per race:

Forza 3 - 8 cars per race

Gran Turismo 5 - 16 cars per race.

 

Anyone who acts like this means nothing is insane in my opinion. It means a lot, especially when it comes to online play.
