Forums - Microsoft - Rare Claims That Nobody Knows Who The Company Is

I think what they mean that people cannot define Rare's identity and role in the industry...

For example, when people talk FPS Bungie and Infinity Ward's name comes up as the bench mark. When you talk JRPG, Square Enix... WRPG, Bioware... Stealth is Kojima Productions... Hard core action games Itagaki when he was with Team Ninja... Racing, Polyphony Digital and Codemasters... etc..

Rare is not associated with genres but rather their games. Everyone knows what games they create, not many people understand what they have been the benchmark for in the industry.

It used to be Rare,...... quality.

If they think no one knows who made Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, Banjo Kazooie, etc....then they're just being whiny little bitches

Well considering that we've gone through an entire gaming generation without Rare putting out anything notable other than PD: Zero and BK: Nuts and Bolts, which were both disappointments to longtime fans, is it any wonder why Rare no longer has the recognition of prestige that they once did less than a decade ago?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Rare used to make good games. INCREDIBLE games! Lately I heard they started working in the garbage industry though...

Do you think MS would be stupid enough to buy 51% of Rare (Stamper brothers part) if they didn't didn't have an agreement with Nintendo for the other 49%? If Nintendo didn't want to sell their part, MS would never buy Stampers' shares and, in the end, Nintendo would have bought the other 51% for less than half of MS paid (because Stampers really wanted (needed) to sell it.

Honestly, and assuming you know Nintendo's history, do you really think they would miss a super deal like that if they thought it worth it?

I'm not really sure what you are talking about.  See that big post of mine for the Rare-Nintendo-Microsoft history.

Dsister44 is right on the Dinosaur Planet thing.  Nintendo had them add the Star Fox characters to the game and it became Star Fox Adventures.  Notice how there are a bunch of dinosaurs in the game.

Read the posts before and you'll see what I was talking about ;)

Microsoft didn't need a deal with Nintendo.  The Stamper brothers bought back the 49% that Nintendo owned before selling the company to Microsoft.  And before you ask, yes Nintendo knew that was what the Stampers planned to do.

I was not going to ask, because I knew. It's the same I said before, in other words.

The point is... Rare wasn't tired of Nintendo... they needed to sell their shares, MS wanted to buy the company, Nintendo found the offer a good deal... everybody wins.

What Rare did to Banjo Kazooie is unforgivable...I was so excited for the last installment of the franchise until I heard about the "creative changes"

I wonder whose bright idea that was...ugh

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.

Most people don't know who Rare are. But a lot of people know who Rare USED to be!

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Rare are the guys who butchered Banjo-Kazooie and to make matters worse, they added an absolutely stupid fruit mission. What were they thinking?

Seriously! And Kazooie is a girl... When I figured it out, man, it destroyed my childhood! :(

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
