Forums - Sales - HD Exclusive Sales Comparison

L4D is only "HD" exclusive on PC.

PC doesn't count right?

It's exclusive to the Xbox.  If anything the PC version hurts the 360's sales.  Console exclusive = exclusive in my opinion.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

My personal thought is that if you're going to look at exclusives, you should look at ALL exclusives. No biasing because a game is "poor" (low Meta score, which really means nothing anyway), or "old" (omission of certain titles have had a chance to build up sales). I think that every exclusive, no matter the release date or "quality", should be looked at. That might paint a better picture, since not every game can be a blockbuster.

I appreciate the concern regarding to omission of 2007 and 2006 data. My reasons for doing this were stated in my previous post. It's very difficult to compare these consoles because the 360 released 12 - 18 months before the PS3. The 360's data in 2006-2007 is very impressive, and I don't want to discount it by starting at 2008.

Some responses:
Lost Odessey is at 78 on metacritic.
Halo 3 will break 10 million soon, but it released in 2007.
I'll take a look at changing the Metacritic to 75 and post if it changes significantly.

Note,
360 exclusives(80+ metacritic in 2007): 19,790,000 Units
PS3 exclusives(80+ metacritic in 2007): 8,440,000 Units

The main issue I have is that certain 360 titles sold most of their copies in 2008 or later (Halo, Mass effect, etc). Halo in fact still appears on the World wide top charts. Leaving these out makes the chart feel out of whack. Still the information is useful. Especially in comparing GoW2 to resistence 2 / killzone 2. Left 4 dead numbers are lower than the other main line shooters on the 360 (PC numbers?). Valkyria's attach rate also feels low for its Metacritic rating.

i agree.. even us sony fans are saying to at least put halo 3 in there. this list is good going forward i see that but halo 3 and gears of war  are good games with great sales.

we know the 360 wins in sales overall but its good to see that in 2008 on down the ps3 comes back with great sales and great games.

Nonsense thread... how the hell can you ignore Halo3 and Gears amongst others?

Particularly as Halo 3 still CURRENTLY outsells killzone2, res 2, MGS4, GT5P weekly and therefore your reason for omitting it is invalid.

Welcome to the thread.

I think you are trying to determine which platform sells the most software, I am trying to determine if there is any concern with how well PS3 exclusives sell.  Again, this isn't a thread about which console is winning (the 360 clearly sells more software), it is intended to show how the performance of exclusives over a set period of time.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

By the year end... it will look vastly different... includ Halo ODST, Forza 3, maybe Alan Wake and it will swing big time again.

You have selected a period and a criteria that suits PS3.

Dont forget Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2 and maybe R&C.

It's not exclusive to the Xbox because it's on the PC.

No, console exclusive =/= exclusive. It might in your opinion but in reality it doesn't.

Exclusive = exclusive.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

I agree the current period seems to suit the PS3.  If you would like, I will send you my template and you can post 2007.

Don't you think Splinter Cell would have been better in your list than Alan Wake?  It has a release date and will outsell Alan Wake in my opinion.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Exclusive = exclusive.

For the sake of this comparison Console exclusive = exclusive.  I personally think that console exclusive = exclusive in general, but I know many people disagree with me.

Start back in 2006, when the new gen fully started.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I didnt.... but it will still swing in 360 favour.  In any event, it is a garbage cxomparison.... wayyyyyyyyyy to selective.

I defined the current market as 18 months, selected only items that actually had a retail box sale, and filtered out all titles that people would argue sales based upon quality.  I clearly defined the rules for the dataset in my original post.  My post intends to tell the story of the current marketplace.
