WHY?

Why would sony make the system 249.99  when i can get a 2000 or 3000 for 169.99 on Amazon. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson from the PS3.

My biggest problem is getting rid of the UMD. I know i can transfer my game over to the PSP go but why does it have to (i Presume) all digital with the PSP Go. I like having a Hard copy Why wouldn't they Just Support both options?

Plus wanted to know what you guyys think will happen with sales. Could this possibly eat into the Market Share. Do you think it was a mistake to introduce this with a worldwide recession?

Thank you Kowenicki

PS3 will need to outsell 360 by:

444,931 per month to catch it by Jan 2011. 102,676 per week.
266,958 per month to catch it by Jan 2012. 61,606 per week.
190,685 per month to catch it by Jan 2013. 44,004 per week.
148,310 per month to catch it by Jan 2014. 34,225 per week.

Current rate is:  -18,262 per month
Avge over last 6 mths
Negative number means 360 is outselling PS3 by that amount per mth on avge

they want to make money, which they will..

The 3000 and 2000 will probably both still be available at retail alongside the $250 model, so early adopters/first time PSP buyers will take care of at least the first few shipments of the Go! for Sony. Especially when it launches with GT Portable. then they'll slowly drop the price and start phasing out the UMD models over the next two or so years.

If you want the cheaper bulkier one with UMD you can still pick it up.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

Its not difficult to understand. You are buying portability with the PSP-Go, and Sony believes (no doubt with extensive market studies) that the profit/sales sweet point is $249. If you currently have a PSP classic, I really don't think Sony is expecting you to go out and buy a PSP-Go. The PSP-Go is targetted at a slightly different consumer, mainly one who found the older PSP too cumbersome to carry around, or the load times far too slow, or battery life too short. It also further targets people who may want a PSP-Go as a media-player, and from PSP software sales, it seems not a few people buy a PSP for that purpose. In that event the hardware profit will be the only profit Sony will see from that sale, so its setting the price to ensure profitability comes right off the bat.

PSP-3000 is still on sale, so Sony isn't forcing you to sacrifice anything. Its just offering something else. I'll be getting a PSP-Go, and I never considered getting a PSP before because they were too bulky. So thats one sale right there that Sony never would have got, if PSP-Go wasn't developed.

As for releasing it in a recession, well no doubt design started before the recession hit, and a design earns them nothing by itself. Letting your product line stagnate is a sure way of going under in a recession, as the market gets more competitive, not less.

i have made 2 threads with this topic and i think here is the answer

They are keeping the 3000 if you want UMD, and you can transfer your UMDs anyway. That form would not be possible with UMDs still around, nor would the storage space

you did little research I see. The 3000 isn't going anywhere. Both systems will be supported. Games will be released for download and on disc. If you wanna keep a 3000 and collect discs... DO so... they're not forcing you to upgrade.

4 ≈ One

this threat have been made like 100 times

The fact they're keeping (at least for the foreseeable future) the current PSP indicates that they're expecting a mainly new customer base for the Go! and for both to co-exist without too many issues.

Whether they're right or wrong? We'll soon see.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
